ABC Cancels Ugly Betty: Series Finale Spoilers – Betty & Daniel?

Major ‘Ugly Betty’ series finale spoiler: Does this mean what I THINK it means?

by Michael Ausiello

ugly-bettyImage Credit: WENN.comHere’s some (potentially) good news for Ugly Betty fans hoping for a Betty/Daniel happy ending: The show is shooting several pivotal scenes on location in London today with America Ferrera and Eric Mabius for the April 14 series finale. “They’re shooting in Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square, amongst other places,” reveals a source. The British flag on Betty’s farewell banner was a rather big clue that her new career opportunity would take her across the pond, but that doesn’t explain what Daniel is doing there. Hmm

London came to a standstill yesterday as it formed the setting for the last ever scenes of the hit U.S. TV show Ugly Betty.

Tourists enjoying the Easter bank holiday gathered in their droves to watch as America Ferrara raced around the capital’s most scenic loacations in an attention-grabbing cerise coat.

In a packed day of filming America was spotted inTrafalgar Square, the Millennium Bridge in front of St Paul’s Cathedral, Leicester Square, Westminster Bridge, Piccadilly Circus and a red London bus.

The actors are working to a tight deadline as there is little more than a week until the episode airs in the U.S.

But after all that work there was time for a celebratory drink – as the cast headed to Boujis nightclub in Kensington.

The last episode sees Betty launch her own magazine, but the exact details of the plot are not known. But with no further series planned, it is sure to tie up all the loose ends.

Gone were the thick-rimmed glasses and braces that once defined America’s character Betty Suarez, which she has played for more than three years.

Micheal Urie, who plays Marc St James, said emotions were running high among cast members.

He told the New York Post: ‘Oh God, I’ve been on the verge of tears for a week.’

And he admitted his upcoming final moments with Vanessa Williams, who plays Wilhelmina Slater, might just send him over the edge.

‘It’s going to be so hard to film my last scene with Vanessa, I’m going to be a mess for that.

‘We’ve all started acknowledging “this is our last – this is the last time we’ll do that.”‘

Urie, currently starring off-Broadway in The Temperamentals, confessed he doesn’t know how the show will wrap up, but suggested a scenario for how he’d like to see things end.

He said: ‘I would love for Marc to find someone, but what I really want is for Marc and Wilhelmina’s relationship to continue professionally. More than anything else, I feel that they belong together at Mode, running things.’

America herself admitted that she ‘felt a lot of things’ when she was told the show was to be axed.

‘Did I want the show to be over?’ she said. ‘Not necessarily. It wasn’t a complete surprise because the ratings were turning south, but we still had our very loyal audience.’

‘Critics and our audience were very pleased with what was happening this season. It’s nice to at least go out when we found a nice creative place rather than going out when it wasn’t working creatively.’

‘Ugly Betty’ poll: Who should she end up with?

Source: EW

By now, you’ve read the sad news that Ugly Betty’s current season will be its last. If you want to debate whether ABC should have pulled the plug on the four-year-old show, Michael Ausiello is hosting that debate. Here on PopWatch, we’re accepting the cancellation and moving forward. Exec producer Silvio Horta and ABC president Steve McPherson have confirmed that Betty’s writers will have time to pen a “satisfying conclusion” and “proper farewell.” So, knowing that they now have less than 10 episodes left, it’s time to seriously ponder that question we’ve all been asking since we first found out that Betty and Daniel coupled up in the original Colombian series:

In the series finale of ‘Ugly Betty,’ Betty should end up with:
  • Daniel
  • Matt
  • Gio

Critical Darling ‘Ugly Betty’ Is Canceled

By Edward Wyatt, NYT, 1-27-10

“Ugly Betty,” the ABC series that won a Golden Globe award for best comedy series in its first season on the air in 2006-2007 but whose audience has fallen by half over its four seasons, will end its primetime run this spring, the network and the show’s producers announced Wednesday.

ABC and the program’s producers, who include the actress Salma Hayek and Ben Silverman, the former NBC programming chief, said: “We’ve mutually come to the difficult decision to make this Ugly Betty’s final season, and are announcing now as we want to allow the show ample time to write a satisfying conclusion. We are extremely proud of this groundbreaking series, and felt it was important to give the fans a proper farewell.”

The program, which was developed for American television by Silvio Horta, is an adaptation of a popular Spanish-language television show, “Betty La Fea,” about an unattractive but cheerful secretary at a fashion magazine. It was imported to the United States by Mr. Silverman’s Reveille production studio and featured America Ferrera as Betty, a role for which she also won a Golden Globe and an Emmy for acting in her first season.

The buzz around the show was strong even before the series had its premiere, leading ABC to move the show from its initially planning time period of 8 p.m. Friday to 8 p.m. Thursday, where it served as a lead-in to the network’s enormously popular series, “Grey’s Anatomy.”

But after drawing more than 11 million viewers in its first season, viewership steadily declined, to 8 million in the third season. After the network moved the series to 9 p.m. Fridays beginning in the fall of 2009, viewership fell further. The series was moved to 10 p.m. Wednesdays after the cancellation of “Eastwick,” but has drawn only about 5 million viewers per week this season.

Ausiello: Not only is he returning, but sources confirm to me exclusively that he’s been promoted to a full-fledged series regular! In fact, I hear Betty producers are already cooking up a fresh obstacle for the pair, and rumor has it they want him to be lovable and blue collarish. (Think Seth Rogen only much cheaper.) ‘Ugly Betty’ scoop: The braces are coming off!

Are you looking at Matt and Betty as a long-term couple?
SILVIO HORTA:
As long-term as it gets in TV. As with any romance, there will be obstacles as well as some misunderstandings before the finale, and it’s going to lead to some juicy stuff next year. Matt’s going to be around and their relationship is going to be changing and growing.

How significantly will Henry’s return threaten their relationship?
HORTA:
They’ve both moved on, but they obviously are still an important part of each others’ lives and that’s going to become a complication. There’s going to be feelings of insecurity on Matt’s side, and there are some unresolved things between Henry and Betty.

Speaking of Betty’s exes, might we see Gio again?
HORTA:
Potentially, but there are no plans at this point.

Will the issue of Justin’s sexuality be addressed next season?
HORTA:
Yeah, we’re going to explore stuff. He’ll be going to high school and getting older, so we’ll definitely be exploring that.

Will Marc find love after Cliff?
HORTA:
We’ve been discussing it. We haven’t started breaking the exact stories for next year, but that’s one of the things we’ve really talked about. We want to see [Marc and Amanda's] love lives.

How would you characterize Ashley Jensen’s departure? Was it mutual?
HORTA:
It was mutual. She’s amazing. From the get-go, we found some really good stories for her, but we never found enough to service her character the way we wanted to and the way she wanted to. She wanted to do more, but it was [difficult] with a large ensemble like this to give her more. I hope in the future she’ll come back. She’s an important part of the show.

Will Christina get a satisfying send-off?
HORTA:
She will. Next week’s episode will [set things in motion] with Wilhelmina’s baby – or her supposed baby – and it’s going to lead to a lot of complications.

Ana Ortiz gives birth in June. Will we see less of Hilda at the start of next season due to her maternity leave?
HORTA:
We may write her a little lighter in the beginning, but we’re not writing her out or anything.

Who is Rachel Dratch playing in the finale?
HORTA:
She’s playing a dual role. She’s playing Penny Meadows, an editor at Mode, and she’s also playing Mindy Meadows, her twin sister. It’s a one-time guest stint, but she was great.

The most asked Ugly Betty question from my readers: When is Betty getting her braces off?
HORTA:
Her braces will be off by the end of next season. Next year, there’s going to be a progression in her look overall. It’ll still be Betty, but you’ll see some growth in that direction.

Ugly Betty Season Finale Episode Recap: “Curveball / The Fall Issue” Molly Dies & Matt Breaks-Up with Betty

‘Ugly Betty’ finale: Farewell to first loves

Source: Zap2it.com Recaps

“Ugly Betty” packed in many rather upsetting plots for this two-hour finale, and luckily it’s coming back next season, so it won’t all be for naught. Let’s start with the (relatively) less upsetting story line, shall we?

Quarreling queens

Wilhelmina gets in good with Cal Hartley’s ex-wife Victoria (by playing tennis, singing torch songs and drinking midday) and discovers Claire and Cal had a fling back in the day that produced an offspring that Claire supposedly put up for adoption in another state since she was married to Bradford at the time. Wil tries to use this info as blackmail, but it turns out that Cal knows about the pregnancy … and the abortion, not adoption.

So with no Hartley/Meade lovechild out there and a suspicious boss, what does Willie have? Not much except for her fabulous style and burning sense of preservation. She hires someone to track down Connor (yes!) in order to get back the money he stole, thereby eliminating the need for Cal’s pesky influence and apparent preference for Claire. Oh, and we learn at the very end that Claire has been lying to everyone: There was indeed a baby that came to term and was adopted. Dum, dum, dum!!!!

Melancholy Molly

So, by now we know that Molly isn’t dead, scaring the bejeebus out of me last episode when she collapsed in a pitiful heap after marrying Daniel. Every moment is precious now, and is it just me? We know how this is going to end. We know it will be this episode, and yet, I just had to watch it unfold:

Daniel becomes a minor celebrity since the former playboy has committed himself to marriage — thus becoming a media darling and even landing an interview on “The View.”(pointless cameos). Ugh. Molly’s acting weird, always talking about who he’ll hook up with after her death. It’s awkward. It’s heart-wrenching. And when Daniel’s wedding issue, with Molly on the cover as a bride, wins a prestigious award, we know that the smiling Molly in the audience is a ghost. I knew, and as soon as he got home, he learned the truth. Bye-bye, Molly. You made Daniel a better person.

Betty is busted

And how about our girl Betty? Her story isn’t as tragic, but it’s still not full of puppies and rainbow. She has some pretty stressful times with her work, namely her attempts to move up. As the winner of the YETI final project, she gets a ton of interviews and even aces the one with the New York Review, until her mentor Jodie (that bitch!) snakes the job out from under her. Later, when an important Mode features editor dies (R.I.P.), she and Marc compete for the job, and eventually she emerges victorious. All smiles now, right? Wait for it …

Betty is horribly conflicted since she’s just agreed to move in with the wonderfully dedicated and sweet Matt, but what’s this? Henry is in town — cute, bespectacled and suddenly buff Henry! A double date at a Mets game has our girl’s head whirling since she still has fluttery feelings for the accountant extraordinaire — and the feeling’s mutual. But in the end, they both acknowledge that it was a first love thing and part with a yearning goodbye kiss.

Unfortunately, sensitive, dedicated and oh so mercurial Matt witnesses the final exchange. He eventually confronts her with this, and even though she declares that she’s moved on, he has doubts. Matt brings these feelings to his dad — what?!? — who plants even more doubt and worse, ruthlessness into his son’s head. When Betty admits that she’ll always harbor a bit of love for Henry, Matt becomes the monster that I never saw coming: He breaks off their relationship and declares he’s going to be her new boss, since he accepted his dad’s offer to work for Meade.

Fall TV: ABC’s Official Schedule Revisits V, Moves Betty and Says Adieu to Who?

Source: TV Guide Online

ABC’s plan for the 2009-10 TV includes alien invasions, a new night for Betty and a bevy of sitcoms — though at least one laffer was ironically “forgotten” along the way. Looking to build a comedy bloc, ABC’s Wednesday lineup will feature four new sitcoms: Hank (starring Kelsey Grammer), The Middle (fronted by Patricia Heaton), Modern Family and Cougar Town (starring Courteney Cox Arquette). Notably missing from ABC’s schedule is Samantha Who?, which has officially been canceled. The Christina Applegate-starrer, however, still has a handful of unaired episodes in its arsenal.

The Alphabet’s Sunday and Monday lineups will remain intact, as will the Thursday night combo of Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice. Now leading into Shonda Rhimes’ one-two punch will be Flash Forward, starring Joseph Fiennes, Sonya Walger and John Cho. The high-concept action-drama — which ran teaser promos during Lost‘s last two episodes —bumps Ugly Betty to Fridays at 9 pm, where America Ferrera & Co. will be sandwiched between Supernanny and 20/20.

ABC will test two new hour-longs on back-to-back nights at 10 pm. Jerry Bruckheimer’s The Forgotten, about a group of amateur detectives and starring Reiko Aylesworth, will lead out of Dancing with the Stars‘ results shows on Tuesday, while Eastwick (inspired by the ’80s flick The Witches of Eastwick) will anchor Wednesday. Rebecca Romijn, Lindsay Price and Jaime Ray Newman star as sorceresses.

On the reality front, Mark Burnett’s Shark Tank, which is aimed at aspiring entrepreneurs, will lead into the Dancing results shows Tuesdays at 8. Once Dancing with the Stars bows out, Scrubs and Better Off Ted will occupy Tuesday’s 9 o’clock hour. Regarding Scrubs, at this time only Zach Braff is locked to return — for at least six episodes — and the setting might possibly change from Sacred Heart Hospital.

Premiering midseason are the dramas V (a reimagining of the cult alien miniseries, and now starring Elizabeth Mitchell), Deep End (a legal series), Happy Town (a murder mystery featuring Amy Acker and Geoff Stults) and, of course, Lost‘s final season. Also on deck for ABC are True Beauty and Wife Swap.

Like Samantha Who?, Cupid and The Unusuals are both canceled, but Surviving Suburbia could return, depending on the ratings its final freshman-season episodes get.

Ugly Betty Episode Recap 3.22 ‘In The Stars’

Adele and aliens invade ‘Ugly Betty’s’ wedding

Source: Zap2it.com Recaps

It’s wedding madness on “Ugly Betty,” and that means workplace powerplays, relationship soul-searching and proposals — of the matrimonial and indecent kind. Oh, and British soul sensation Adele.

The Sketches and Patterns

- Marc, Betty and Matt are assigned a final YETI project — mix music and physical science for a creative photo shoot that could make or break their futures. They have a fun idea: Get a singer (Adele) to perform at an alien-themed affair at the Planetarium. Genius, eh? Problem is, Matt’s bored with publishing and wants to focus on art, so he’s slacking big time.
- Cal Hartley questions Wilhelmina’s judgment when she presents a black wedding dress layout and tells Claire to collaborate with her creatively. Yeah, that’ll work.
- Elena is looking into a great job opportunity in California, so Papi’s upset that she’s thinking of a future without him. He doesn’t do the bicoastal apparently.
- Daniel is uncertain about the wisdom of proposing to terminal Molly, but eventually decides it’s worth it because of the happiness it will bring her.

The Fitting and Sewing

- Mama Hartley pleads with Betty to use her wiles to convince Matt to at least finish the project so he’s not doomed to a life as a declasse dilettante, since he has a pattern of doing that (Exhibit A: Slideshow of almost achievements). Our good girl is conflicted, but does convince Matt to put some effort into the project as a last hurrah, and he comes through … until he discovers his mom’s meddling.
- Wilhelmina and Claire. The claws come out. A model’s dress is ripped in the process. ‘S okay. It was ugly.
- With the Suarez family seal of approval, Papi proposes to Elena, who doesn’t exactly jump up and down and scream, “Si!”
- Wedding planning starts out swimmingly with Daniel bowing to Molly’s wishes, but then she calls the whole thing off. And it’s not cuz he says “toe-MAH-toe.” Wedding planning is all surface stuff, and Molly gets all existential since this will not make her life perfect.

The Runway Show

- Matt comes to his senses and assures Betty that while he’s a flibbertigibbet with his vocations, he’s constant in his love for her. To prove it, he gets the previously canceled Adele to show up at the Planetarium for the shoot. As guest stars go, she was kinda sweet. Happy ending all around cuz they won the project.
- The Meade women go to Hartley, and Claire acknowledges that Willie is right, bowing out of the catfight for the good of the magazine. The twist is that this focus on the company’s well-being impresses Cal, and he promotes Claire to Sr. VP of Meade, which means she’s now Wil’s boss. Ha!
- In another act of sacrifice, Papi encourages Elena to pursue the job in California by buying her a ticket (a little extreme, no?), saying that if he’s committed to her, he’s committed to what’s good for her. Aww! Lady, figure out how to have them both.
- Daniel and Molly have an impromptu wedding at Betty’s Planetarium shoot, and it’s all kinds of weird and fun. As they’re packing for their honeymoon in Bora Bora, Molly collapses …

The Buyers Say …

- Matt is showing more and more kinks in his armor. I understand not everyone can find one thing to be super-passionate about, but that does not mean shirking responsibility and leaving your teammates and girlfriend in the lurch. Get over yourself for the time it takes to finish the project and then moon over art. Selfish jerk.
- I wasn’t thrilled with Wilhelmina’s contrived way to stay at Mode, so I’m psyched that Claire will be more active on the magazine and has hand over her.  - How awesome was it that was Jodie coming onto Marc? It’s about time he was preyed upon. I still miss Cliff though.
- Fun quote — Betty: “We can’t just paint stars on your ceiling and call it the Planetarium. This is Adele, not Amy Winehouse.”
- I know shows need to be creative about advertisers, but the Cherry 7-up plug was pretty clunky.
- One of my favorite just plain oddball moments: Wilhelmina shrieks, “Out of my way, alien,” at an alien and then screams silently behind the glass.
- Where can I steal Claire’s chunky turquoise necklace?
- I like Daniel, but the whole Molly storyline still isn’t working for me. Does that make me dead inside?
- Where’s Archie? I want a good Hilda or Justin subplot soonest.

Ugly Betty Episode Recap 3.21: ‘The Born Identity’

‘Ugly Betty’: Be my baby

Source: Zap2it.com Recaps

Being a good friend, Betty consoles Christina after the DNA test proved baby William was actually Wilhelmina’s. Imagine Betty’s surprise then, when William is stolen at Mode, and it turns out Christina is the baby-napper. You see, Xtina believes that Wil faked the DNA results (okay, which one of you readers called it?), and that William is actually hers and Stuart’s.

After a madcap run from the law and finding sanctuary at the Suarez household, Betty and Christina with William in tow call upon a higher power: Claire (cue angelic chorus). She arranges for another test to be administered, but at the last minute, cops (alerted by Marc who was eavesdropping) arrive on the scene. Later, Betty somehow appeals to Wil’s better nature (as if), and Wilhelmina holds a press conference to reveal that ach, William is a good Scottish laddie after all.

While all this is happening, Meade has been preparing to wow investor Cal Hartley with an awesome presentation, complete with omelet bar (really, if anyone wooed me with a food bar, I’m theirs). The presentation — with Mr. Hartley’s reluctant acquiescence — is put on hold, however, when the William-napping is discovered.

The next day when all the baby stuff is resolved, the Meades try to fire Wilhelmina since she no longer has a legal/blood hold on the company, but oddly enough, Hartley makes Wil’s position in the company mandatory or he won’t sign. He claims her sharky-ness is what’s important and will balance out the Meades’ niceness, or something lame like that. Whatevs.

Finally, Hilda and Archie‘s relationship deepens as he announces he’s running for Queens borough president and asks her to be on camera with him. It’s a big step, as if he wants her “in his future.” Yes, I’d say so. During the filming of the announcement at the Suarez home is of course when the baby-nappers make their appearance, but nothing goes amiss.

In the end, the saddest thing is that Christina (wah!!!!) and Stuart decide to move back to Scotland with little William. I mean, we knew that Ashley Jensen was leaving “Ugly Betty,” but since Christina was Betty’s only real friend, I’ll certainly feel the loss.

Overall, this was an okay episode that was somewhat unsatisfactory, probably because it’s just set-up for what comes later. I want a more Betty-centric episode with Matt and/or YETI.

General Season 4 Spoilers

Series creator Silvio Horta reveals about next season: We’re going to explore [Justin's sexuality]. He’ll be going to high school and getting older, so we’ll definitely be exploring that. We want to see Marc and Amanda’s love lives. [Betty's] braces will be off by the end of next season. Next year, there’s going to be a progression in her look overall. It’ll still be Betty, but you’ll see some growth in that direction. Source: The Ausiello Files

What is going on with the long-rumored Ugly Betty musical episode? It’s definitely not going to happen this season. Vanessa Williams (Wilhelmina Slater) tells us, “If it’s going to happen, it would be next year, and now that we’re in New York, we have Broadway talent at our fingertips. I really hope it happens this fourth season.” (Meanwhile, if singing is what you want, well, Vanessa’s new album, The Real Thing, is out June 2.) Source: Kristin on E!Online

‘Ugly Betty’ scoop: The braces are coming off!

‘Ugly Betty’ is back with bankruptcy, bunny suits & a baby boy

Ugly Betty” returns tonight and I’d say the episode is pretty close to top form. The only thing missing is a few really solid Wilhelmina/Marc zingers. But the “UB” world will warm up your Thursday night regardless… even if Mode is close to bankruptcy. I mean, Betty’s still with the rich boyfriend, so all’s well on that end. Yep, Daniel and Willy are taking the bus, while Betty’s traveling in style, getting dropped off at work in a limo these days. I mean, she’s still same old Betty with her technicolor dream coats… and belts and stockings and shoes. She’s sort of a sight for sore eyes, actually. And you need not worry about Mode, since B — after seeing one of her friends get fired — will risk her relationship with richy Rich (aka Matt) to save the company. But she isn’t the only one making sacrifices. Daniel will give his own dignity away in exchange for Mode’s financial security. Have you seen the bunny suit?

There’s some good stuff coming as we power towards next month’s season ender… Baby William? Though tonight’s paternity test supposedly states that he is, in fact, Wilhelmina’s kid, that case so ain’t closed. Be prepared to see big Willy returning to her signature scheming ways in the weeks ahead. A Meade Wedding? Yep. Someone with that last name will tie the knot soon. Not Claire. No, Bradford won’t rise from the beyond. And Alexis is still M.I.A. and will remain so. Uh, Daniel! It’s Daniel! Do I have to spell everything out? A Love Rectangle? As you may have already heard, Henry (Chris Gorham) is back in New York, and though he’s got a new girl, his flame for BS hasn’t been extinguished….Source: Zap2It’s Korbi TV

Adele is in the house on May 14 for a Mode photo shoot that magically morphs into a wedding. With time being a factor, Daniel and his ailing bride are getting hitched. (TV Guide)

On tomorrow night’s “Rabbit Test” episode, Wilhelmina Slater (Vanessa Williams) finds out that she may not be the biological mother of baby William. For those not keeping up, here’s the deal: Wilhelmina’s egg and publishing king Bradford Meade’s sperm were implanted into surrogate Christina McKinney (the seamstress) to produce the golden child of publishing and help secure the diva’s standing in the company. “That’s what she thought happened,” Vanessa tells us, “but it turns out that it’s not what it appears. And it jeopardizes Wilhelmina’s standing at the company, and her livelihood is at stake. But she is a fighter, and she will continue to hold her ground and stay at the top no matter what threats are made and what consequences happen.” (Watch With Kristin)

More baby drama ensues as little William gets kidnapped in the next episode, “The Born Identity,” on May 7. “That gets resolved rather quickly,” says Vanessa Williams. “It goes in a different direction, and she doesn’t end up being a mommy for long.” (Watch With Kristin)

With her baby problems aside, it’s back to what Wilhelmina knows best: conniving, blackmailing and jockeying for position. “My next blackmail up is Claire Meade,” says Vanessa. “Yes, it’s back to Claire again. I get more dish on her. The angles in which [my character] tries to deceive and connive are hilarious and funny, and the situations that she puts herself into are outside the box. There is a scene where she sings with Christine Baranski’s character [Yes, Christine is back for more eps as Matt's mother...the same Matt who's Betty's boyfriend!] while fishing for information from her.” (Watch With Kristin)

In “In the Stars” on May 14, two wedding proposals are made, but only one is seen to fruition. “Betty and Matt are not the ones walking down the aisle, though Matt is in the finale. And, it’s not Hilda and Archie,” says Vanessa. That, of course leaves Daniel Meade and his cancer-stricken girlfriend, Molly. “That’s right,” she says, “and I can tell you that Adele sings at the wedding.” With rumors swirling that Molly loses her battle to cancer, one can only think that the new bride kicks the bucket after the wedding. “I can’t tell you everything,” says Vanessa. “She does get very sick.” (Watch With Kristin)

Along with Adele, other upcoming guests on these episodes include tennis queen Billie Jean King (who plays tennis with Christine Baranski’s character) and The View’s Joy Behar and Elisabeth Hasselbeck (who have Daniel Meade on the show in part two of the two-part finale, “Curveball,” on May 21). Ugly Betty creator Silvio Horta confirms to me exclusively that Gorham — who’s currently trying to stay alive on CBS’ Harper’s Island — will reappear in the show’s two-hour season finale on May 21 when Betty runs into Henry and his new girlfriend Chloe (played by Gossip Girl‘s Dream Walker) in the Big Apple. To prove to themselves that they’ve moved on, Betty and Henry agree to go on a double date to a Mets game with their respective significant others. Good times, right? Not exactly… “As Henry and Betty reconnect, it could potentially threaten her relationship with Matt,” teases Horta, who adds that he’s “really happy” to have Gorham back in the fold. “Chris has always been, and will always be, part of the Ugly Betty family.” But how big a part of the family will he be? Scoop: Ashley Jensen exits ‘Ugly Betty’

Cristina’s exit from the show involves a kidnapping, a medical test, and a reunion with the two men in her life. (Michael Ausiello)

Ashleyjensenuglybetty_l Ashley Jensen is leaving Ugly Betty at the end of the season, and I know this because… she was just cast as a series regular in the CBS comedy pilot Accidentally on Purpose! A rep for CBS/Paramount confirms that Jensen is joining the cast of Accidentally, which revolves around a San Francisco movie critic (Jenna Elfman) who finds herself “accidentally” pregnant after a fling with a much younger man. Jensen’s Betty departure hardly comes as a surprise. The actress was less than thrilled when Betty moved its production from Los Angeles to New York. In fact, Jensen was the only cast-member not to relocate to the Big Apple full-time — making for one hellish cross-country commute. Add to that the fact that she was barely visible on Betty this season and you have the makings of what an ABC insider calls “a completely mutual” parting of the ways. ( “While we’re sad that Ashley will not be returning next season as a series regular, she is still a member of the Ugly Betty family,” Ugly Betty exec producer Silvio Horta said in an exclusive statement. “So don’t be surprised if you see Christina pop back up in Betty’s life.”

Ugly Betty Episode Recap 3.17: “Sugar Daddy”

‘Ugly Betty’: Can’t buy her love

Source: Zap2it.com Recaps

Tonyplana_uglybetty_240 Ugly Betty has fallen on some hard financial times, and just like the rest of us, the characters are turning to nurturing relationships to get them through the hardship.

When Casa de Suarez receives an eviction notice, the familia decide to gather enough money to pay for the down payment to buy the house from their landlord. Easier said than done. Betty’s job is reeling from Connor’s perfidy, Hilda’s inflated prices aren’t going over well, and although Justin made $250 as a street busker, well, the kid should stay in school.

Papi thinks he can win $10,000 by challenging TV chef Frankie Burrata (Steve Schirripa) to a throwdown, excuse me, a Kitchen Rumble. All goes well during the competition, even when Papi throws out his back and Betty steps in, but for some reason, Frankie wins. They was robbed! When the family gets a mysterious $10K check in the mail anyway, Betty thinks it’s Daniel taking pity on the family, but finds out it’s Matt instead.

Danielericgold Yes, perpetually absent-minded, forgetting-his-wallet, but very sweet Matt. It turns out, he’s stinkin’ rich. Betty of course refuses, and when Papi legitimately earns a job at Frankie’s restaurant and sells him the mole recipe for $10,000 (funny how that worked out), all is copacetic. The homestead is saved, and Matt and Betty make nice. They make very nice actually and share a smooch in public after he declares he’s really into her. Aww!

Meanwhile, Wil and Daniel are desperate to keep their company afloat and even endure the indignity of public transportation to petition for government bailout funds. The print media, especially fashion, is essential to New York’s economy they argue. They’re just about to sway the bigwigs when a tabloid photo shows them out on the town eating at the poshest restaurant. Bye-bye bailout.

It’s a rude awakening for Daniel, who decides to take responsibility. Yeah, he does still have a ton of money, so he’s gonna liquidate his assets. It’s risky, but so is pursuing a relationship with Molly since she’s got cancer. He’s seriously getting into adult mode when he makes it clear that no matter what happens, he wants them to be together. They kiss. Aww, again.

Beckinewton_uglybetty_240 Finally, there’s some crazy excuse to get Marc and Amanda shopping for baby stuff for Wilhel-mini and they run into this totally hot single gay dad Timothy. Marc makes off with Timothy on a playdate, leaving Amanda with William and Christina (who is predictably trying not to get too attached to the baby she carried for nine months). This quality maternal time make Amanda realize that her adoptive parents, though liars about her parentage, are still the ones who raised her. Duh. Anyway, she calls home and makes nice with mom. Hat-trick aww!

Random thoughts and highlights:

- I immediately knew that Matt was the mysterious benefactor. Although it was a mistake, his heart was in the right place. I’m really digging him.
- Marc about Timothy: “Cute and rude. I’m in love.”
- I think the name Cello is kind of cute, but you have to be Italian to pull it off. Okay, technically it’s Marcello.
- Justin to Betty: “In all black? You look almost fashionable!” Actually, with the red glasses frames, it’s a decent look.
- Kitchen Rumble commentator about Betty taking over for Papi: “They tapped the sturdy girl to step in.”
- So the eviction notice is the reason why Betty had to move home. I guess.

Ugly Betty Episode Recap 3.16: Things Fall Apart

Source: Zap2it.com Recaps

Grantbowler Ugly Betty is seeing lots of action lately. Too bad it’s not necessarily the good kind, thanks to that snake Connor.

Let’s just get straight to it, shall we? Connor is stealing from Meade. Major stealing — millions. We only find this out because the YETI class is assigned to study their magazine’s budgets. Marc pretty much makes Betty do all the work, so when the numbers don’t add up, upstanding Betty brings her concerns to CFO Connor, tipping him off.

Now Connor needs to leave town, fast. But first, he invites the love of his life, Wilhelmina to go with him. Never mind that he’s stealing from her and tearing down everything she’s worked for. They’re in love. He also sets it up so Betty and Daniel will be implicated for stealing too if they try to tell anyone.

Molly In the end, Wil chooses her career over Connor, but when the police arrive at the flight he said they should run away on, he’s not there. He took an earlier flight. No trust, ever. They sully the word “love” with that craptastic lack of trust and respect. And it’s very telling that he does all of this NOT because he loved Molly, but because he really hates Daniel.

Daniel is of course reeling, but it gets worse. Yes, as all of you guessed, Molly is ill. She beat cancer once before, but now it’s back and she doesn’t want Daniel to go through it with her, so she’s jumping ship and moving to be with her family. Nice little romance we had there, bye.

So with the co-editors single again, things have reset to one. Well, except they’re now completely broke because all the accounts have been cleaned out (that Connor is thorough). And oh yeah, there’s baby William, aka Bradhelmina Spawn, to think of.

Christophergorham_uglybetty_s2_240 The only bright spot is Betty’s possible love life. First, she freaks out when she joins Facebook and discovers that her ex Henry has posted pictures of himself and his girlfriend — no, not baby mama Charlie, but a new girlfriend, Samantha. Henry has moved on, so why can’t Betty?

Good ol’ Matt is still around, and after hemming and hawing and figurative hand-wringing, Betty is still uncertain. Matt tells her that being in YETI together doesn’t need to be a conflict of interest or awkward. That just means they share the same passion — and didn’t I say that last recap? Finally, Betty agrees and meets him for another drink. Huzzah!

Random thoughts and highlights:

- Once again, a pretty decent (if not happy) episode with lots of good action. Why is this all happening now before it goes on hiatus?
- Honestly, Facebook is everywhere nowadays. Have you checked out Zap2it’s Facebook pop-culture mentions gallery lately? I’ll have to add Ugly Betty now.
- Still loving Justin, especially how he calls Tina Brown’s bio of Princess Diana, his Di Chron.
- Great scene where MarcManda eat Betty’s sandwich.
- How painful/adorable was it when Matt and Betty did the Wall-E voice?
- You know, since there was such a big finish last episode, I just figured Christina was taken care of off camera. But not even a mention of her this episode? That’s a shabby way to treat a surrogate.
- When Connor confronts Betty in the elevator, I expected him to say, “I would have gotten away with it, if it weren’t for you meddling kids” and then rip off his mask to reveal Old Man Withers.
- This is twice now that Matt has been the voice of reason. Really, you need to listen to him from the start, Betty.

New Ugly Betty Spoilers: 4th Season Renewal!

Exclusive: ‘Ugly Betty’ lives!

by Michael Ausiello

Uglybetty_lAn Ugly mess has been averted!

Despite the, ahem, perception problem that resulted from that whole open-ended hiatus thing, ABC is on the verge of renewing Ugly Betty for a fourth season, sources confirm to me exclusively.

The network is also said to be thisclose to giving early pickups to Grey’s Anatomy, Desperate Housewives, Brothers & Sisters, Extreme Makeover: Home Edition, America’s Funniest Home Videos, and The Bachelor.

An ABC spokesperson says the net “is not ready to announce any pick-ups at this point.”

As you know, Betty‘s future was called into question when ABC announced that it was temporarily replacing the show on Thursdays with an all-sitcom comedy block. At the time, Alphabet insiders insisted the show was safe, and, gosh dang-it, they weren’t lying!

Ugly Betty Episode Recap

‘Ugly Betty’ moves back home

Zap2it.com

Lauren Papi hires the nurse Elena (the lovely Lauren Velez of Dexter fame) because he thinks this will neutralize his family’s fussy overprotectiveness and allow him some autonomy. Idiota. The two butt heads, and she lets him know in no uncertain terms that she’s not just a seat filler, but will monitor his diet and exercise properly. After a bit of mule-headed resistance, he finally bows to her wisdom.

Meanwhile, Daniel and Molly continue to get cosy, and she’s even come up with a cute nickname for him: RJ, short for Rich Jerk. Damn straight. Why did he have to throw away 7 cents of change?

Grantbowler Unfortunately, Connor has been obsessing about the picture of Molly he saw in the tabloid — you know, the one where an unidentified man’s hand is holding hers. So Connor enlists Daniel’s help to stakeout her place in hopes of determining the identity of her new squeeze. A silly chain of events involving Betty, flowers and a T-shirt eventually lets Connor know that Daniel is the guy, and he gets KO’d during a sparring session at the gym.

Oddly enough, in guy fashion, that means everything is square between them. You lie, you get hit. End. Connor goes back to Wilhelmina and grovels a bit, and she welcomes him back into her cold, bitchy embrace.

Finally, Betty has her own romantic dilemma. She’s determined to move back home but makes excuse after excuse — she can’t find a roommate for Amanda to sublet the apartment, she has unfinished business with Jesse. Yup, artsy, sensitive musician dude has come back into the picture. After a two-wine bottle session and an impetuous kiss, Betty is more confused than ever.

Jesse_01 When Jesse starts avoiding her, she’s had it and confronts him at one of his coffee house gigs. He apologizes — he’s so confused, he’s such a girl! — and asks her on a date. Later, on said date, the other shoe drops. He’s a total user. She’s warm and sweet, and he totally needs that right now. He’s a self-indulgent, self-involved artiste who funnels everything into his songs but gives very little in return. (Makes sense now how he was blind enough to her crush in the first place so that he made out with Amanda that other time).

Anyway, so Betty is not down with it. She tells him so in a very classy but unambiguous way. Wow. Then she goes back to her apartment and tells Amanda that she’s selected Marc as the perfect roommate to sublet the place. Back home Betty goes.

Highlights and musings:

- I really didn’t want Betty to give up her apartment, but now that it’s done, I better get some quality Familia Suarez action!
- Marc, on what Wil and Connor share a love for: “Fine dining, capitalism and late-night covert surveillances.”
- Is there such a thing as champagne pink? Cuz Willy looks amazing in that color.
- Still not feeling any of the D/M W/C romances.

Details about her character and how she will interact with Betty (America Ferrera) and the rest of the Suarez clan are being kept under wraps, but word is that she is tied to a plot twist that might involve the death of a major character. 01/28 – [February 18 is] when Daniel Eric Gold debuts as Betty’s new love interest, Matt. Word is the YETI hottie is concealing a major secret, and it’s not that he’s loaded (although he isn’t terribly forthcoming about that bit, either). Source: The Ausiello Files

Multiple sources confirm that Daniel Eric Gold has been cast in the recurring role of Matt, a seemingly Henry-esque hottie with whom Betty meets at YETI (Young Editors’ Training Initiative). I’m told Betty producers have big plans for Betty and Matt. The kind of big plans that led them to include a series regular option in Gold’s just-inked contract. Source: The Ausiello Files

Ugly Betty Episode Recap

Shades of grey are in fashion on Ugly Betty as Betty, Daniel and even Wilhelmina try to balance what they want with what is deemed right, making decisions that immediately create heartache for all those involved.

As Betty ascends in the world of publishing, some of that shiny, positive spirit will be dimmed, but hopefully not lost. She may have a chance to remain grounded, thanks to her family, but what happens if she chooses ambition over Suarezes?

This is the thrust of the argument that both Papi and Hilda make when Betty skips out time and time again (well, only thrice) on family obligations in order to attend to Mode or YETI business (how abominable! get it?). Huh, I think the Suarezes are overracting un poco.

Twice Betty has to cancel helping Hilda prep her salon relaunch party — once in order to make contacts for her YETI program and later to pick up a Halston dress that is essential to Mode‘s April cover. She strikes out the third time during the party when she skips out in order to fix a humongous mistake that cost Mode major business.

Nikki You see, as Betty networked at a bar (mentored by Marc), she befriended Elle assistant Teri O’Shaughnessy (she of the outdated pink hair streak), who sneakily discovered that Mode needed that Halston dress to lure Keira Knightly and 30 pages of ad buys for the mag. Yoink. Teri picked up the dress instead, sabotaging Mode‘s plans.

Luckily, Betty recalled who Teri said was catering the Elle party, and got him to sneak her and Marc in to steal back the dress. Arriving with the adorned mannequin at Wilhelmina’s party (you can only have your party on that night apparently), Betty gets invited in and has the opportunity to rub elbows with the fashion elite.

Unluckily, by missing Hilda’s party, she finds out after the fact that Papi suffered a heart attack. It’s a rather grim scene when she goes to the hospital and the Suarez clan is gathered around….Continue reading »

New Ugly Betty Spoilers!

Tell me it’s not true that Ignacio has a heart attack on Ugly Betty!
In the next episode, Marc wants in to a Wilhelmina party, and he will do anything to get in—including stoop to working with Betty. Gasp! You’ll notice I’m not addressing your Ignacio-heart-attack question. I am, however, sobbing quietly in a corner. — Source: Kristin
