Gossip Girl Spoilers: Photos from the Bass Funeral!

Tell me something good about Chuck and Blair on Gossip Girl?
How about the fact that our girl Blair is going after her may-uhn?! Blair applies for membership at a tony NYC women’s club, but after the ladies start talking smack about Chuck, Bart, Lily and Serena, Blair decides membership privileges are overrated. She defends Lily and Serena and announces, “Chuck Bass needs me!” And then promptly runs off to find him. Um…holler! — Kristin at E!Online

So, someone’s dying on Gossip Girl. Do you know who it’s going to be? -Deirdre
I do. And I don’t think you’ll be all that surprised. This person is sort of cold and uncaring, but his passing will affect a few people quite profoundly… four series regulars in particular. — Korbi at Zap2it.com

Today the cast was shooting the funeral scenes and here are some photos from the set:

One Tree Hill Episode Recap: ‘Sympathy for the Devil’

Hilarieburton_onetreehill_s5_240 One Tree Hill pulls out the flashbacks tonight to remind us that they did indeed jump five years in the future last season. This might be confusing to some, considering they’ve been acting like adults since their junior year in high school.

The flashbacks are all about Peyton this week so let’s dive right in, shall we? Peyton is still keeping her past relationship with Julian a secret from Lucas, and this secret is about…oh…55 minutes from blowing up in her face. Her flashbacks reveal that both times she met Julian before they started dating she was crying over some heartbreak caused by Lucas, so their relationship started out on a totally healthy note! The first time was immediately following Luke’s first proposal in L.A that she refused. I would like to note that this flashback is set to a new Joshua Radin tune, so they obviously aren’t going with the “choose a song from the year of the flashback” device. Actually, they probably aren’t going with that device because then they’d have to actually figure out the timeline of the show, which would involve some sort of advanced calculus at this point. Anywho, when Peyton was crying at work over Luke, Julian randomly shows up and offers some sage words of advice, because strangers always offer unsolicited, clichéd advice. Back in the present, Peyton tries to tell Lucas about Julian and her history with him but he’s so excited about writing the screenplay she just can’t bring herself to do it….READ FULL RECAP AT ZAP2IT.COM

Gossip Girl Episode 2.9 Recap: “There Might Be Blood”

Chace Crawford, Taylor Momsen

On tonight’s Gossip Girl, Jenny and Agnes plan an impromptu fashion show, and Blair babysits a bratty teenager with sex on her brain.

Spotted: Jenny and Agnes pretending to be Project Runway contestants in Brooklyn.  While J throws together some awesome dresses for a fashion show, she tells Agnes that Nate has been ignoring her since last week’s May-December smoochfest.  Meanwhile, Blair and Serena (Blake Lively) meet with a Yale donor who only seems to be interested in S and her burgeoning fame.  S volunteers B to hang out with the donor’s Harry Potter-loving teenage daughter, thinking it’ll earn B some extra Yale points.  Young Emma seems like an angel, but she’s really a Lohan in disguise.  She’s on a mission to lose her virginity, and if B doesn’t help her she’ll make sure she never gets into Yale.  Blair being blackmailed by a conniving teen?  We saw how well that worked for Jenny Humphrey…..READ FULL RECAP AT BUDDY TV

New Brothers & Sisters Spoilers! Ryan Appears in Episode 14

Will the Walkers meet Ryan soon on Brothers & Sisters?
Not quite, but since Kitty (Calista Flockhart) can’t keep her big mouth shut, the rest of the family will meet Ryan’s father, George, this week at Tommy and Julia’s anniversary party. Look for Holly (Patricia Wettig) to ruin the close-to-family reunion though, but with the casting of Ryan, we all know he’ll be popping up soon. I’m hearing episode 14. — Kristin at E!Online

Will Kitty be getting a baby on Brothers & Sisters? And was this storyline brought about because of Calista’s real-life adoption?
Yes, she will be getting a baby, and the baby storyline actually came about because so many of the show’s producers (a lot of them) are going through adoption experiences of their own right now. Cool, no? — Kristin at E!Online

Greek Spoilers: New Season & A New Sorority!

Does Frannie really get away with starting her own house?
Yes she does! Sources on the set tell me the Iota Kappa Iota house is already in full swing. Because of the IKI (pronounced “icky,” tee hee) house, Zeta Beta Zeta is going to be desperate for girls, and will even pair up with the Kappa Taus for a party. When it goes down, Cappie and Casey will get into a huge fight over the fact that a nongreek male is in attendence…Max! Yup, he’ll be sticking around CRU. — Kristin at E!Online

Grey’s Anatomy Spoilers: Brooke Smith Fired; Melissa George No Longer a Lesbian

Grey’s Degayed: Brooke Smith Fired; Melissa George No Longer a Lesbian

Craig Sjodin, ABC/Scott Garfield

Melissa George, Brooke Smith, Grey's Anatomy

It’s true. Sources confirm that Brooke Smith, who plays Dr. Erica Hahn (a doctor who recently relized she is gay), has been axed from Grey’s Anatomy.

Even more, I’m told by those who work on the ABC series that the gay-themed storylines and gay characters are being downplayed and even erased from upcoming scripts.

And that goes for the series’ latest newcomer, Melissa George of Alias, who joins the show this month…

“Melissa came on as a lesbian character,” a reliable insider tells me, “but they changed the script and now she isn’t. She starts off flirting with Callie but it never goes anywhere.”

Grey’s has included a prominent bisexual/lesbian storyline this season in the blossoming relationship between Hahn (Smith) and Callie (Sara Ramirez). I’m told that that storyline will end abruptly in this Thursday’s episode, which will be Smith’s last appearance on the series.

“They don’t really give her a goodbye,” an ABC source tells me. “It ends rather abruptly.”

E.W.‘s Michael Ausiello first broke the news of Brooke’s dismissal today. “I was very excited when they told me that Erica and Callie were going to have this relationship,” Brooke told E.W. “And I really hoped we were going to show what happens when two women fall in love and that they were going to treat it like any heterosexual couple on TV. And so I was surprised and disappointed when they just suddenly told me that they couldn’t write for my character any more.”

ABC also fired Rebecca Romijn—who plays transgender Alexis Meade—as a series regular from Ugly Betty at the end of last season. Could this be a new trend with the network, or just another unfortunate scandal Grey’s will withstand?

Grey’s Anatomy Spoilers: Grey’s Discharges Dr. Hahn

Grey’s Actress “Really, Really Shocked” by Ouster from Show

It is the worst and last news that “Callica” fans expected to hear. But the fact is that Brooke Smith, who first appeared as Grey’s Anatomy‘s Dr. Erica Hahn in May 2006, has been abruptly let go from the show — just as her lesbian storyline with Sara Ramirez’s Callie was taking off. Ironically, series creator Shonda Rhimes broke the news to Smith in mid-September, just after the actress had filmed Erica’s pivotal “I see leaves!” coming-out monologue. Her last episode airs this Thursday.

“I was very excited when they told me that Erica and Callie were going to have this relationship. And I really hoped we were going to show what happens when two women fall in love and that they were going to treat it like any heterosexual couple on TV,” Smith tells EW‘s Ausiello, who first reported on her release. “So I was surprised and disappointed when they just suddenly told me that they couldn’t write for my character anymore.

“I was really, really shocked,” she stresses. “It was the last thing I expected.”

Though ABC declines to comment on the reason for the unexpected ouster, Smith says that in her talk with Rhimes, she got the feeling it was dictated by the network. “I don’t know for sure, but it definitely seemed like [Shonda’s] hands were tied,” she says, “like some decision came down from above.”

Might have this frank exploration of two women coming to terms with new sexual orientations proven too hot for ABC to handle? Smith saw no such signs. “At work I had no sense of it. And more fans seemed to like it than not,” she tells EW. “I don’t think I’m ever going to know [why this happened].”

Exclusive: ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Discharges Dr. Hahn

Nov 3, 2008, by Michael Ausiello, EW

Greys_l1UPDATE: Shonda Rhimes has just released the following statement in response to this story: “Brooke Smith was obviously not fired for playing a lesbian. Clearly it’s not an issue as we have a lesbian character on the show – Calliope Torres. Sara Ramirez is an incredible comedic and dramatic actress and we wanted to be able to play up her magic. Unfortunately, we did not find that the magic and chemistry with Brooke’s character would sustain in the long run. The impact of the Callie/Erica relationship will be felt and played out in a story for Callie. I believe it belittles the relationship to simply replace Erica with ‘another lesbian.’ If you’ll remember, Cristina mourned the loss of Burke for a full season.”

ORIGINAL STORY: Brace yourselves, Grey’s Anatomy fans: The show has parted ways with a female doc who is blond, beautiful, outspoken – and not Katherine Heigl. It’s Brooke Smith. As in Dr. Erica Hahn. As in one half of Callica, Grey’s first-ever significant gay couple. And that’s only part of the story. I’m told this was not Shonda Rhimes’ decision but rather an order that came down from the network. According to one Grey’s source, the suits “had issues” with both the explicit direction Callica was taking (think: undiscovered country, south of the border, etc.) and, more importantly, with the Hahn character in general. Basically, they didn’t like her and wanted her gone ASAP. But how soon? And what does this mean for Callica? Keep yourselves braced, because the shocks don’t stop in the following Q&A with the sublime Ms. Smith. She deserves better treatment than this, and next go-round, here’s hoping she gets it.

AUSIELLO: What the hell happened?!
BROOKE SMITH:
I was very excited when they told me that Erica and Callie were going to have this relationship. And I really hoped we were going to show what happens when two women fall in love and that they were going to treat it like any heterosexual couple on TV. And so I was surprised and disappointed when they just suddenly told me that they couldn’t write for my character anymore.

That’s all they said?
Yes. Frankly, it was you that warned me this might happen on the red carpet back in July. You said [sometimes networks get cold feet] with gay relationships. And I was so naive. I’m like, “It’s 2008.” But I’m starting to realize that not everyone feels the way I do. [Scroll down to watch our now-infamous exchange.]

Did you get the feeling that the story was making people nervous?
No. At work I had no sense of it. And more fans seemed to like it than not. I don’t think I’m ever going to know [why this really happened].

When did you find out?
I found out in mid-September soon after shooting the monologue that aired last week where Erica has the revelation that she’s gay. They even came down and told me it was a great scene — one of the best they ever shot on the show. So I was really, really shocked. I was floored when they told me [I was being let go]. It was the last thing I expected. In fact, when they told me I asked, “When is this happening?” And they said, “The [next episode] is your last,” which is the one that airs this Thursday. So it was very sudden.

Wait a second – your last episode is this Thursday?
Yes.

How are you written out?
I’m not written out. My final scene is just me heading to my car. I honestly don’t know what happens in the next episode. I heard not much. [Quick sidebar: This sheds new light on Mary McDonnell’s arrival next week as a top cardiac doc.]

Who broke the news to you?
Shonda.

I’m hearing that this wasn’t her decision, but rather ABC’s.
You know, I have to tell you, I got that feeling. I don’t know for sure, but it definitely seemed like [Shonda’s] hands were tied. That was just my gut.

Did she seem upset?
She did seem upset. I wasn’t having a very good week that week. I was like, “Oh, God, what is it with this business?!” And she said, “No, no, no. You are such a great actress. We love you.” It seemed like some decision came down from above. It didn’t feel like it was her.

What was Sara Ramirez’s [Callie] reaction?
She was shocked. I’m the one who told her. It took her a few days to get back to me because she was surprised. It was surprising to everybody.

Were you happy with the direction the story line was taking?
You know, I was starting to get there, yeah. I was personally a little impatient with the gay panic, but it was more Callie’s thing anyway. I think Dr. Hahn was sort of figuring it out.

What did you think about Callie going to Mark to get pointers on exploring the “undiscovered country”?
It was a little icky. If you’re a women, don’t you know how to please yourself? But they seemed to be okay with that one.

How are you doing with all this?
It’s actually never happened to me before. But I never had a moment where I thought I did something wrong. I was just really surprised. I just moved my entire family to L.A., so it was kind of like, “What?” But for some reason I feel like I’m fine. I feel like I’m going to be okay.
