Ghost Whisperer Episode Recap: “Delusions of Grandview”

‘Ghost Whisperer’: No, you’re the crazy one

Zap2it.com Recaps

Davidconrad_ghostwhisperer_240

Now that Sam knows one of the Ghost Whisperer‘s big secrets (but not the one where he’s her dead husband), he’s game to see what she’s all about. And he’s in for a good introduction. Her case of the week features mental patients. Because nothing is spookier than crazy ghosts in old hospitals.

Sam is a believer, sorta, in Melinda’s gift, but he’s tailing her pretty closely, trying to figure it all out. After a quick trip to one of his work sites, an old mental hospital from the 1950s being converted into a Kindergarten, which, duh, is never a good idea, Melinda tells him there are several spirits lingering around, including one woman ghost who seems particularly disturbed. After some quick sleuthing with Eli, they determine she’s Greer Clarkson, who suffered from post-partum psychosis, and was committed after killing her newborn. She then died in 1959 in the hospital. And she’s pretty attached to the Kindergarteners, who all find her funny. Aiiieeeee.

Then one morning, one of the kids writes “I’ll be quiet when I am dead” Bart Simpson-style on the dry erase board, and then all of the Kindergarteners disappear – poof – only to turn up in the town square with Greer. Melinda tries to reason with her, but Greer disappears, telling them to keep the kids away, that it’s not safe.

Melinda and her Scoobies then realize that the kids and Greer must have gotten to the town square by way of the – hooray! – Grandview tunnels! There, Melinda sees a vision of Greer receiving some wonderful 50s-style electroshock therapy, which killed her. Eli says that the doctor in her journals, Dr. Byrd, is the person they need to figure out because if Greer really is crazy, they’re never going to be able to reason with her.

Some more sleuthing on Greer turns up a living son, Douglas. Greer’s baby didn’t die! And now he’s all grown up, and very aware of his mother’s past. He says she never hurt him, but was scared she would, and he’s never heard of Dr. Byrd. Eli and Delia look into more of the hospital records, and realize that Dr. Byrd was a ghost himself. Because what’s scarier than crazy-mental-patient ghosts from the 50s? Electroshock-therapy-loving psychatrist ghosts from the 20s!

Melinda then believes that Greer could see ghosts, and that Dr. Byrd convinced her that she’d killed her baby. She then puts together that Greer is protecting the Kindergarteners from Dr. Byrd, who is whispering in the childrens’ ears, and to the other patient ghosts too.

During her conversation with Greer, Sam visibly becomes more and more disbelieving. It only makes Melinda angry, and she ends up spilling that he is actually being inhabited by Jim’s spirit. Again, not a lot of finessing going on with the giant loaded secrets, Melinda. Already thinking she’s a bit crazy, he’s pretty insistent that what’s gone is gone, and that he’s not Jim at all. He then bolts.

Determined to get to the bottom of things, Melinda drags Eli into the tunnels, where they find Greer. She leads them to the others, and then Dr. Byrd shows up. He’s been telling them the light is only going to show what they really are to the people they don’t want knowing. The patients ignore him, and head in anyway. Greer stays long enough to reconnect with Douglas before heading into the light herself. Dr. Byrd says he’s staying around.

In the end, Sam comes to the conclusion that Dr. Byrd and Melinda are the same kind of crazy (or evil) – she’s been filling his head with all of Jim’s memories, whispering in his ear at his bedside. He wants her to get help, but she tells him that he should just leave. As he heads out, we see Dr. Byrd hanging around outside.

However, if Sam really believes that Melinda’s been filling his head with whatever she wanted him to believe, he’d have to believe the Dr.Byrd ghost story. But whatever.

I’m glad the pace of this plot is being sped up a bit now. I may not be the biggest fan of the twist this season, but at least it’s moving along at a good clip. And I guess the Grandview tunnels are going to be a stocked pond for the plot vehicles. When in doubt, refer to the tunnels! There’s always a way to move the story there!

But what’s going to happen next? The preview had a glimpse of Dr. Byrd perhaps helping Melinda, and Sam magically becoming Jim again… and I’ve heard some spoilers about the end of the season. Go Google.

And I have to say, Eli’s best line of the night – “Way too spooky. Need more light.” – actually made me laugh out loud. That and the sexing line.

Update: Season 5 Scoop!

Ghostly whispers about next season (yes, next!), include: Dr. Jim (?!), a certain baby’s special gifts, the “Book of Changes” and a possible Grandview space-time continuum!

2.23 Book of Changes (Season finale) – Airing May 2009

Melinda’s dreams and visions about her baby tie in with a mysterious “Book of Changes” that everyone wants to get their hands on. Jeremy Bishop: In his mid 30s, good-looking, tall, and mysterious, he meets with Zoe to discuss a special collection of books that are being sold to support the university. His interest in the tomes is sinister, and he can turn from pleasant and charming to ice-cold in an instant. (SpoilerTV)

So great that Jim remembered himself on Ghost Whisperer, but what’s next? Do they still have two guys playing one character?
According to Ghost Whisperer show runner P.K. Simonds, “We might catch a couple of glimpses” of Kenneth Mitchell, the actor who plays Sam, during the remainder of the season, but that’s it. And we’ll see David Conrad as Jim, but everyone on the show still perceives him as Sam. “He can’t resume [his Jim life] exactly, because Sam Lucas doesn’t have a license to practice emergency medicine, but obstacles are also opportunities. He finds a new direction that actually allows him to go after a specific dream he’s always had.” Like, say, Jim’s dream of medical school? Looks like Grandview residents might eventually enjoy Jim’s bedside manner via Dr. Sam Lucas… Source: Kristin on E!Online

New Ghost Whisperer Spoilers! Melinda Pregnant, Jim Returning?

This is a summary from http://ghostwhisperer.yuku.com from a scene in Episode 4.21 Cursed script. Everyone is going to be really happy that Melinda’s baby is really Jim’s!!! Jim’s still Sam, but he now goes by Jim  and knows and remembers he is Jim and will be raising the baby with Melinda.

Rumor has it that it will be Eli’s girlfriend Zoe that will be the one that dies.

“Cafe Breakfast out, coffee for Jim, herbal tea for Melinda. Enjoying the fine spring morning and each other. Jim takes a final bite as Melinda watches him lovingly. Jim: Are you eyeing my coffee or me?

Melinda: You Jim: Because the no caffeine it’s gotta be an adjustment for you

Melinda: not a problem

Jim (doting): You didn’t eat very much. Are you having morning sickness?

Melinda: Nope, I feel great. It’s a beautiful day, I’m with you…. Jim: And Junior, can we call him Junior?

Melinda: Call her anything you like Jim: It’s a girl? Does it feel like a girl?

Melinda: I have no idea, but either way I gotta say, Junior is not at the top of my list. Unless of course, you’re serious about naming him Jim, James Jr or Jamie For the moment, completely forgetting that he’s:

Waitress: Sam, Sam Lucas? It takes Jim a bit to recognize his own name. He turns to the waitress, holding a check she’s taken from another table, scanning the patrons, looking lost.

Jim: That’s me, over here Waitress: Sorry, this is my first day, and I gave you the wrong check She swaps it for another

Waitress: Here, I’m so lame This next as much for Melinda as the overwhelmed waitress

Jim: It’s ok, no problem ….(to Mel) Really As the waitress moves off Jim shrugs, tells Melinda:

Jim: We got some explaining to do (Trying this on)

Jim: I guess I’m the great boyfriend who steps up and helps you raise your dead husband’s child

Melinda (reassuring): Our friends, our family, anyone who matters will know the truth. If not now, then in time. Okay?

Jim: Sounds like a plan. Who’s first?

Melinda: Delia. Come to the store. We’ll tell her together

Jim: Thanks but no. This feels like something you guys should share. In a high-pitched, girls-only kind of way.”

Also Episode 4.18 Leap of Faith March 13, 2009 is a major turning point for the Melinda/Jim/Sam storyline: A TV Guide said that Melinda gets trapped in a flood and Sam is her only hope of rescue. He risks his life to save her, and it transforms him “physically and mentally”.

UPDATED: After weeks of twists and turns, Jennifer Love Hewitt will indeed get rescued on an upcoming episode of “Ghost Whisperer”. Pinned in by a flood, Melinda (played by Hewitt) is saved by her reincarnated husband Sam (played by David Conrad). “He rescues Melinda against his better logic,” Conrad leaked to “TV Guide”, admitting, however, that Sam is “transformed on that journey.” “It’s both a physical and a mental transformation.” “It’s going to be really fun and really big and really satisfying,” insists exec producer P.K. Simonds. Catch the pivotal “Ghost Whisperer” installment next Friday night on CBS.

Who Got Jennifer Love Hewitt Pregnant?

Source: E!Online

Jennifer Love Hewitt Karl Larsen/INFphoto.com

Jennifer Love Hewitt is having a baby!

OK, maybe not in real life, but her Ghost Whisperer character, Melinda Gordon, is finally preggers. So who’s the proud papa? Jim or Sam? All signs point to…Jim!

“Do the math,” says Ghost Whisperer show runner P.K. Simonds, “less time has passed for our characters than has passed in the broadcast calendar…basically, time slowed down in the aftermath of the big events at the beginning of the season. [The 12 episodes] since Jim died have taken less than 12 weeks in terms of Jim and Melinda’s lives.”

So Melinda could’ve been pregnant this whole time without realizing it? Says Simonds, “Sometimes you don’t notice something like that. Especially going through what she’s gone through—the cycles [can be] interrupted by traumatic events.” Simonds wants fans to remember that the season “started with [Jim and Melinda] trying to become pregnant, trying very hard [and] facing some obstacles. And just as they seemed to get past those obstacles, tragedy struck.” Tragedy, of course, being Jim’s death—and his amnesia after being reincarnated in Sam’s body.

And the final blow Sam delivers to his new girlfriend after she at last confides he is really Jim: He believes Melinda Gordon is a mentally unstable widow who is using him as a substitute for her dead husband. (Jim, how could you?!)

So when does Melinda finally start to notice her sexually transmitted parasite, i.e. the baby? And why does she look more than three months pregnant in the picture above?

Ghost Whisperer Monty Brinton/CBS

Simonds points out, “Some of the photos have been taken from episodes 21, 22 and 23 (the finale) that were shot after some time has passed. Basically, time slowed down in the aftermath of the big events of the beginning of the season and then speeds up again toward the end of the season.”

But before Mel can do a happy Snoopy dance about the baby, she needs Jim there to share the good news with her, right? Right, and that’s why you have to tune in to tonight’s epic episode, “Leap of Faith.”

Says Simonds, “The entire season was built and designed and carefully engineered to give this particular episode the biggest possible punch, the biggest payoff to our audience, especially our loyal viewers who stuck it out.” Simonds guarantees that the fans who “make it through this one will be very, very happy.”

Happy, sad, mad? We want to hear your opinion after you watch the show, so be sure to come back here with your comments.

419. Thrilled to Death April 10, 2009

Moran lives in the same building as Eli, and is being haunted by the ghost of Rick Hartman. Melinda and Eli track the connection to a cancer support group they were both members of, to find out that Morgan is dying herself. Rick had died 6 months ago in a tragic parachuting accident, the ironic thing is his job, when he was alive, was an actuary – someone who assesses risks of others. With a little investigating by Melinda and Eli, we find out that Rick had cancer and had made a “bucket list” of things he was to accomplish be he died, the last thing on his list though was “Morgan.”

Guest Star Hillary Duff (Lizzie McGuire, Joan of Arcadia) will play Morgan Jefferies, a beautiful woman of mystery who may be involved in the death of a man who fell victim – literally – to a freak accident.

Episode 4.17 “Delusions of Grandview

Melinda shares some devastating news with Sam about who he really is and their relationship is left in limbo. Meanwhile, with Sam’s help, Melinda struggles to solve the mystery of a haunting at a local kindergarten before any children are hurt – but her supernatural revelations may drive a wedge between her and the increasingly skeptical Sam.

Jefery Levy directs from a script by Co-Executive Producer Laurie McCarthy (“Body of Water” and 7 others) and Mark B. Perry (“This Joint’s Haunted” and 4 others). Kenneth Mitchell returns as Sam Lucas along with Guest Stars Darby Stanchfield (Jericho), Golden Globe nominee Aaron Hart (Thank You for Smoking), Oscar nominee Michael O’Keefe (The Great Santini, Roseanne), and Mark L. Taylor (Saving Grace, Melrose Place).

Melinda encounters Greer, a pretty but obviously anguished ghost who died in the mental hospital shortly after giving birth to her only child, whom she supposedly drowned after falling into a deep post-partum depression. Now, Greer haunts her former sanatorium, which was recently converted into a kindergarten. But whether she is a dangerous psychotic bent on vengeance or a wronged victim intent on protecting the kindergarteners from harm is a troubling mystery that Melinda must unravel – and fast.

Jennifer Love Hewitt Eyes a Maybe Baby Future

Source: E! Online

She may have just called off her engagement, but that’s not stopping Jennifer Love Hewitt from planning for a baby. At least, not on her show. At the Adam by Adam Lippes show during New York Fashion Week Saturday, the Ghost Whisperer star raved about the “very fresh and comfortable” dresses and teased E! News about the remaining episodes this season. “There’s lots going on,” she said. “I think the audience will be very, very happy. There’s an unexpected reunion and there’s maybe the pitter-patter of tiny feet.” J.Love also sees such a pitter-patter on her eventual horizon. “At some point in the future, yes,” she said about someday becoming a mother…

Hillary Duff Visit to Grandview!

Things in Ghost Whisperer’s Grandview are getting sexier by the minute. As if Jennifer Love Hewitt weren’t enough, starlet Hilary Duff will be stopping by in a few short weeks to stir things up with a new perspective on what must be the most haunted town on television. Will she get along with J.Love, or are they meant to be adversaries? E!’s own Michael Yo just sat down with Hilary and brought back the goods…

First off, there’s no need to worry about a multihyphenate throwdown: J.Love and Hilary Duff are old pals, and that’s how Duff got the part. Hilary says, “Jennifer Love Hewitt’s one of my friends, and we were having dinner one night. She’s like, ‘Come be on my show. You know, we’re almost finished.’ I’m like, ‘Give me a part. I’ll do it.’ And it just kind of came about really naturally and organically like that.”

Duff will be playing—wait for it—a woman with a little ghost problem that Melinda Gordon might just be able to solve. Duff says, “I’m kind of being haunted by someone that I was in a relationship with before they passed away. He had unfinished business with me, and I’m having nightmares of being turned upside down in my apartment, like when I’m sleeping on the bed, I’m actually going to be hanging from the ceiling.”

Hilary’s episode of Ghost Whisperer airs Friday, April 9 at 9 p.m. on CBS.

Ghost Whisperer Episode Recap: 4.15 “Greek Tragedy”

‘Ghost Whisperer’: Sigma Chai Lattes for everyone!

Zap2it.com

Davidconrad_ghostwhisperer_240This week’s Ghost Whisperer features a big anti-Greek message, sidelining Sam and Melinda’s new relationship. And Melinda seems to think lying is the best way to get this guy.

The story of the week starred some of those wacky Rockland University students and their laugh-a-minute hazing ways. Except this hazing situation included a remorseful yet dead sorority sister from 1968 who decided to whisk a current pledge away to show everyone that sororities are bad. They make everyone feel terrible! They’re unfair and cruel! The story seemed to be interesting in the beginning, when I thought it was going to be a sibling rivalry/turf war thing, but the end turned out to be boring. If they’re going to pad the season and stretch out the primary plotlines, at least make us jump a couple of times. I’m missing the scary. Where’s the scary?

What about the more riveting plotline? Or maybe not so riveting. Everyone’s got secrets – skeletons in the closet that you’d rather your new crush not know about – that old tattoo, the weird family member, or the state you had to leave in a hurry. But Melinda has a doozy and she’s telling Sam lots of lies to cover up her ghost whispering ways. She tells Sam that she’s doing one thing when she’s off doing another. And while he may not have a memory, he is savvy enough to figure out that she’s point-blank lying with a smile on her face. Instead of calling her out on it though, which I wouldn’t do either one kiss into a relationship, he pulls back at the end. She may be off saving the world, and missing sorority pledges, but she could just tell the truth about it. She doesn’t even have to mention the ghosties yet.

Which leads me to two questions: What did Melinda do before, with Jim? There had to be that moment that he found out. I’ve watched this show since the beginning, but for the life of me I can’t remember the details of that history. Anyone else remember? There had to be a moment of realization for Jim. There’s going to have to be that for Sam, and soon. Like, not at the end of the season. It just can’t drag on that long. I’m feeling bipolar when I watch this show lately. I love it. I hate it. I love it. I hate it.

But more importantly, what’s Melinda’s main priority now? Her soulmate is squatting in another’s body, and she’s going to blow it by telling stupid lies about it? She’s changed her entire tune regarding how she handles the dead this season, giving Jim special treatment and instead of focusing on how to nuance this situation, she’s trying to wear too many hats at the same time. It’s maddening. I’m still trying to give this show a chance, but it’s exhausting. There are a million different plotlines, and all of them floundering.

Episode 4.21: Cursed Airdate: April 17, 2009

  • When a little girl communicates with the spirits trapped in a haunted dollhouse, Melinda suspects that the restless dead may have pernicious designs on the living.
  • Lucy: In her mid to late 30s, she’s a put-together single mother with a bit of an edge. Lucy has been raising her niece, Emma, ever since Emma’s family died, apparently from carbon monoxide poisoning. Lucy has a troubled relationship with Emma, who will inherit the bulk of her family’s considerable estate when she turns 18, just days away. In fact, Emma is the only one standing between Lucy and a fortune, and Melinda suspects that Lucy has been dabbling in voodoo with evil intentions. Despite suspicious appearances, Lucy may actually be a loving, concerned aunt whose intentions towards Emma have been seriously misconstrued, not only by her niece, but by the uneasy spirits of her dead, dangerously resentful relatives.
  • Emma: Just about to turn 18 (must work as a legal 18), she seems like a typical teen — until we learn of her tragic past. The sole survivor of a tragic accident that claimed the lives of her family, Emma is now being raised by her aunt Lucy. Emma is very close to her 7 year old cousin Drew, but feels emotionally distant from her aunt. An heiress who inherits a fortune when she turns 18, Emma is suspicious of her aunt’s motives, and those fears are exacerbated by a mysterious dollhouse that seems haunted by the spirits of her dead family, who also suspect the worst. But as Emma later learns, she, her aunt, and her departed loved ones may all be the well-meaning victims of a gross misapprehension.
  • Drew Stanton: This cute 7 year old girl (please submit 7 to small 10 year olds) discovered a mysterious dollhouse in her attic, and now spends most of her time communing with the spirits who are trapped within. Drew is very close to her cousin, Emma, who lost her family and is now being raised by her aunt Lucy, Drew’s mother. Drew is upset by the whispered insinuations of the spirits, who accuse her mother of unspeakable acts. Terrified and confused, Drew doesn’t know whether the spirits are perniciously motivated or simply mistaken.
  • Zoe: This exuberant character in her early to mid 30s is Eli’s fellow professor, a loopy but grounded individual who is Eli’s “old friend and maybe more.” An expert in voodoo practices, she consults with Eli about Melinda’s recent discovery in the dollhouse. Although her chatty manner can drive Eli crazy, there’s still a strong affection between these two.
  • Father Ghost: The spirit of Emma’s father, in his early 40s, he seems trapped within the dollhouse facscimile of his family home, now destroyed. He whispers dreadful insinuations about his sister Lucy and her intentions towards his daughter, Emma. However, as Melinda later discovers, the circumstances of the family’s deaths might actually have been the result of pure accident, not design, as the spirits now suspect.
  • Mother Ghost: This mother ghost, in her late 30s, also lost her life, apparently in a tragic accident. Now trapped in a dollhouse, she also suspects that Lucy may have lethal intentions towards her daughter, Emma — but her suspicions are later dispelled, thanks to Melinda’s intervention.
  • Waitress: This frazzled waitress in her early 20s apologizes for giving Jim and Melinda the wrong check.

‘Ghost Whisperer’: Appearances are deceiving

Zap2it.com

Jenniferlovehewitt_ghostwhisperer_240 Nicole is gone. All obstacles are removed. And both Sam and Melinda know it. But they’re both freaked out by the freedom, and the intensity of their attraction to each other. It’s like they’re soulmates or something. How will our star-crossed Ghost Whisperer couple deal with all the delicious awkward tension?

They’ll go to a high school dance! Actually, they agree to chaperone a dance with Delia. There, they witness a guy groping on his date, much to her dismay. Then, another guy shows up, shoves the groper out of the way, and he and the girl run off together. After watching this exchange, Melinda sees a ghost appear, and has a vision of the room burning. Melinda finds out the girl, Kristy, recently lost her mom in a freak accident. Before the couple run out of the parking lot together, ghost mom says “I said stay away from her.”

Of course, the ghost doesn’t stay away from Melinda, and appears again at a very opportune time – just as Sam was leaning for their first kiss. Of course, Melinda hasn’t told Sam about her ghost whispering yet, so when he gets the wrong idea when Melinda starts trying to shoo ghost mom away. The mom demands Melinda keep Kristy away from the boy, Tim. True love thwarted again, drat! The next morning, Melinda pulls up mom’s obituary – Deborah Marks was a high powered lawyer who died after a weird accident at home. Even though there’s no mention of fire, Melinda mentions she’s still seeing ashes and fire. Melinda heads to Deborah’s house to talk to her husband, Doug, who was a judge.

Melinda tells Doug about Tim’s part in the evening, and Doug gets upset. It turns out Deborah had a soft spot for rehabilitating hard-luck kids, and tried to do so with Tim, but Tim wasn’t a good egg. Deborah appears and tells Melinda that she knows, now, that Tim was a lost cause. Melinda reaches out to touch a portrait of Deborah, and flashes to a vision of a safe behind it, open, with papers and things strewn about. In the vision, Deborah finds it open, and something missing, when she falls, and strikes a fireplace andiron, cracking her head. The fire Melinda has been seeing is something in the fireplace burning. However, Doug said that when he arrived at the house, nothing had been disturbed. Not so, Judge.

Covering all the bases with Delia and Eli, they cover the fact that if Deborah believed Tim murdered her, she would have said that – not just that he was a bad kid.

Ned, however, approaches Kristy at school, and finds out that Tim is just a friend, even though she did once have a crush on him. They aren’t together, but Deborah thought otherwise after Kristy kissed him once. And, Kristy says, if Tim was such an awful guy, then why did Deborah continue to support him? Kristy believes Deborah was in love with Tim herself. Welcome to Cougar Country!

Melinda tracks Tim down, because Grandview is the smallest town in the world, but Tim is angry and doesn’t want to talk. He says that Deborah was good to him, but that he knows now that there’s no such thing as charity, and that everyone wants something. Tim drives away, but his roommate approaches Melinda and says that Tim usually talked about her like his mentor, until one day when Doug dropped by looking for Tim… who happened to be away on a business trip with Deborah… without Doug knowing. Hmmm.

Melinda heads back to Deborah’s house, and as she pulls up, ashes start raining from the sky. Deborah appears to her, and tells Melinda that she asked her to do one thing – keep Tim away from Kristy. Melinda asks her if she had a relationship with Tim herself, but Deborah grows more menacing, and tells Melinda to stay away from her family now.

Yeah, sorry Deborah. That’s not going to happen.

Eli and Melinda now try and figure out a way to get to the safe. Doug, though, won’t allow it. So Deborah plays the ghost card. She tells Doug about the vision she had, and about the safe behind the portrait. Doug starts believing pretty fast, when Eli and Melinda tell them about Tim and Deborah. Doug says he hasn’t been in the safe since Deborah’s death, and he doesn’t know what could have been burned – even if it is evidence of her affair. At home that night, Melinda has another vision of letters burning in the fireplace. The next morning, Kristy comes to the store and tells Melinda that the police have taken Tim in, and his fingerprints were all over the safe. Kristy says that she was with Tim when Deborah died, and that she knows he didn’t do it. She tells Melinda to talk to Deborah about it, but Deborah appears and says that she wishes she could talk about it, but some secrets are better left alone.

Melinda and Eli head down to the police station to try and find out more, but Melinda is stuck on the fact that Deborah says Kristy doesn’t know how Tim is, and maybe what she burned could give more information about him. She heads to Tim’s mom’s house to try and learn more. Tim’s mom swears that Tim really is a good kid, and that even his original run-in with the law wasn’t true. While looking through Tim’s books, Melinda finds a copy of The Little Prince with the first page ripped out, and gets another flash of the burning paper in the fireplace. It was a letter written on the same first page, which came home with Tim from the hospital… when he was adopted by his mother at six months old. The book came home with Tim, and the letter was kept by Deborah in her safe.

Melinda then realizes that Tim isn’t just any kid, but Deborah’s son. She was 18, and gave him up for adoption before she married Doug. She was worried about revealing the truth to everyone when Doug was appointed a judge, and then Kristy got a crush on him. The weekend she spent away with him was just to be with him, but everyone got the wrong idea. As for who had gone through the safe, she had found it open, and the missing page from the book in the fire. She replaced everything, and meant to keep it quiet, but then she fell and died.

Melinda approaches Kristy to find out the truth. She was the one who went through the safe, and as Tim tried to stop her, he found the letter, and burned it himself. Deborah appears, and realizes that Tim wasn’t the one who broke into the safe, but Kristy. Deborah realizes that all the lies hurt more than the truth, and Melinda tells Kristy that Tim was Deborah’s son.

Later, Tim gets released from jail, and tells Melinda that he read The Little Prince a thousand times, and he always wondered where the first page was. He believed Deborah kept his true identity a secret from him, and her family, because she was ashamed of him, but Deborah appears, and tell him that’s not true. She was scared from the beginning and couldn’t stop being scared. Tim tells her how grateful he is for everything Deborah did, from the adoption to the second chance, and Deborah goes into the light.

But back to the good stuff.

During the whole ghost storyline, Melinda stands Sam up on their date. She leaves a bunch of messages trying to explain away, but Sam doesn’t listen to them, choosing to believe instead that Melinda isn’t ready for a relationship. As he tells her that it’s ok, he understands, she shuts up his doubts, and him, by kissing him. And they head out on a real date together. Sigh.

Thoughts…

  • Hey! It finally happened! Their real “first” kiss! I’m all a-twitter.

  • And… I’m finally used to writing about “Jim” as “Sam”. Which means this storyline must have grown on me somewhere along the line. Maybe it’s just that all those Valentines candy hearts I’ve been eating.
  • Anyone else think Ned and Kristy were a cute couple?
  • The ghost story was written well, even if I did figure out the ending 20 minutes into it. The first page of the book twist was a nice touch, though.

[LUCY] In her mid to late 30s, she’s a put-together single mother with a bit of an edge. Despite suspicious appearances, Lucy may actually be a loving, concerned aunt whose intentions towards Emma have been seriously misconstrued, not only by her niece, but by the uneasy spirits of her dead, dangerously resentful relatives…GUEST STAR

[EMMA] Just about to turn 18 (must work as a legal 18), she seems like a typical teen — until we learn of her tragic past. But as Emma later learns, she, her aunt, and her departed loved ones may all be the well-meaning victims of a gross misapprehension…GUEST STAR

[DREW STANTON] This cute 7 year old girl (please submit 7 to small 10 year olds) discovered a mysterious dollhouse in her attic, and now spends most of her time communing with the spirits who are trapped within. Drew is very close to her cousin, Emma, who lost her family and is now being raised by her aunt Lucy, Drew’s mother. Drew is upset by the whispered insinuations of the spirits, who accuse her mother of unspeakable acts. Terrified and confused, Drew doesn’t know whether the spirits are perniciously motivated or simply mistaken…GUEST STAR

[ZOE] This exuberant character in her early to mid 30s is Eli’s fellow professor, a loopy but grounded individual who is Eli’s “old friend and maybe more.” An expert in voodoo practices, she consults with Eli about Melinda’s recent discovery in the dollhouse. [MOTHER GHOST] This mother ghost, in her late 30s, also lost her life, apparently in a tragic accident. Now trapped in a dollhouse, she also suspects that Lucy may have lethal intentions towards her daughter, Emma — but her suspicions are later dispelled, thanks to Melinda’s intervention.sptv050769..LARGE CO-STAR

She begs Melinda for help in preventing her daughter, Kira, from spending time with Tim Dwight, one of Deborah’s work-probation kids. Douglas Marks: In his mid 40s, imposing but a bit worn out, he’s a newly-appointed judge who met and fell in love with his late wife Deborah when he was in law school and she was an undergrad. Now, just when he’s about to turn his life around, he’s considered a suspect in Deborah’s death.

Gail Dwight: Tim’s mother, she’s in her late 40s, poised and stalwart, convinced of her son’s good character but worried about him. She explains to Melinda that Tim’s stint in juvie was the result of Tim taking the rap for someone else. Source: SpoilerTV

Dr. Byrd: A brisk, efficient psychiatrist in his 50s, seen in flashback, he’s present at Greer’s fatal electro-convulsive therapy treatment. Hewitt neither confirms nor denies Ghost Whisperer baby (wink)

image

Ghost Whisperer fans around the globe think that Jennifer Love Hewitt’s character, Melinda Gordon, is pregnant by her beloved but dead husband, Jim Clancy (David Conrad). Complicating matters, while Jim’s body may be no more, his soul lives on in the body of Sam (Kenneth Mitchell).

Hewitt’s heard all the, er, whispers, about a baby, but as the second half of Ghost Whisperer‘s fourth season kicks off, she ain’t talking.

“Well, I can’t answer the Melinda pregnancy rumors,” Hewitt said in an interview. “I can’t answer that. But it gets tricky from here on out, for Melinda particularly. Sam had another life, and he’s essentially a guy who’s dealing with amnesia. And it’s constantly a ticking clock for Melinda on what he’s going to remember and how he’s going to remember it, and if it’s her he’s going to remember. So it’ll be painful. It will be tricky.”

image

Of course, love-with a lower-case L-is stronger than death. And that means sparks will no doubt fly between Melinda and Jim/Sam.

“There will also be romance,” confirmed Hewitt, who’s not only the star of Ghost Whisperer but also a very hands-on producer. “I’m obsessed with the Twilight books right now, and Jim/Sam and Melinda very much have that Edward/Bella connection. For some reason, this guy knows that his heart wants him to stay near this woman, and he doesn’t know why. And there can be nothing more romantic than that.”

Hewitt added, “So for all those romantic people, I would say keep watching the show, because it gets really good. I can’t really say whether he’s going to remember her or not, but it’s intense, what’s coming up.” Ghost Whisperer returns to CBS tonight at 8 p.m. ET/PT, with an episode entitled “Life on the Line.”

Ghost Whisperer Episode Recap: “Life on the Line”

‘Ghost Whisperer’: Ride at your own risk

Zap2it.com

Camrynmanheim_jenniferlovehewitt_gh This week on Ghost Whisperer, Melinda continues to pine away for Jim, squatting in another’s body and living in the garage, and Delia the Semi-Believer gets her own storyline, uh, I mean, haunting.

If you’ve forgotten, Delia is a realtor. She has a new listing – a gigantic house abandoned by the owners, the Bancrofts, who’ve recently separated. Not only that, but they left everything behind and bailed. Delia and Ned are trying to get the house ready for showing by taking down family photos and mowing the lawn. Out in the garage, Ned finds a very dusty riding lawnmower, and the ghost of a young boy with a bloody arm finds him. Minutes later, we flash to a 911 dispatcher taking a call from the same address. The caller is desperate for an ambulance. Turns out to be a ghostly call; Ned is fine. Melinda and Delia show up with the ambulance. Melinda sees the young boy and remarks that it wasn’t a prank phone call. Someone did need an ambulance, but they arrived too late.

Melinda identifies the ghost from the Bancrofts’ family photos as the youngest son, Josh. He died after being run over by the lawnmower two years ago. Melinda thinks Josh called 911 himself, but Delia wants Melinda to do what she does so well and make contact before the upcoming open house.

Meanwhile, Melinda is becoming more and more obsessed with Jim and his quest for finding his missing fiancee-to-be. He, however, has decided to not pursue it after discussing it with his sister. He’s found out that he and Nicole (that’s her name!) had an on-again-off-again eight-year rollercoaster. He’s not too hot on contacting her. At least for now.

Later, Delia tells Melinda she’s asked around, and found out that Josh’s father was the driver of the lawnmower. While they’re taking, the cops show up again, reporting of yet another 911 call. Josh appears, and Melinda follows him to the garage. He’s angry, but he’s not going to move on. He says that his family might be running away, but they can’t escape. Emo ghost boy!

Melinda thinks that Josh wants his family to come home, together, but Delia says the lawyer can’t even get the Bancrofts in the same room. No worries, though. Melinda wraps up a vase from the house and drives to see Mrs. Bancroft, Alana. She refuses the vase, says that she doesn’t want anything from the house, and that she needs a change. Sensing her in, Melinda shares her loss of Jim, and they start talking about how to get through their grief. Melinda asks if she feels Josh is with her, but she says he’ll always be in her heart. She says she tried not to blame her husband, but she couldn’t. She blames him 100%.

Meanwhile, Ned runs into Jim at the cafe. Jim is trying to log into his old email, and Ned gets into it for him. He finds an email he sent to Nicole that said “I know you’re mad. This time is different. I bought the ring. I’m ready. I love you.”

Melinda gives Delia the update, and during their conversation, Doug shows up at the house. He’s not so angry. During his visit, Josh shows up. Doug says that he can still feel Josh around him. Melinda asks if there’s anything Doug would say if he could talk to Josh. Doug said that Josh really wanted to try the riding mower, and he let him try just that once. It resulted in his death. Doug says he would do anything to take it back, and Josh replies “liar.”

Just then the phone rings. It’s the 911 call, playing over and over again. Doug says that he’s been getting them too, and Melinda tells Josh that he’s hurting his father. Josh replies that Doug knows why. Doug, even more upset, demands to know what’s going on, and pulls the phone out of the wall. Melinda heads outside and calls the cops to let them know it’s a false alarm, and they tell her they’re on their way anyway. A neighbor has reported that a message has shown up on their front lawn: HELP ME burned into the grass.

Over Chinese food later with Eli, Delia and Melinda discuss the issues at hand. They figure out that Josh isn’t haunting his mother, just his father. They try and figure out what “Help Me” might really mean. Melinda goes down to the station and gets a friend to play her the whole 911 call. However, there turns out to be a first call – the one that keeps playing over and over was actually the second call placed. The first is Doug yelling “no no no!” over and over.

Delia, though, is still trying to get the house sold, and she needs to get something from inside that evening. However, it’s now dark and stormy, and the front window is broken. While on the phone with Melinda, she lets herself into the house, and finds that the electricity is off. Delia sees a figure in the window, but doesn’t retreat. With Melinda on the phone listening, the figure storms at Delia. It turns out to be someone actually inside the house. Delia follows the man, and finds out that it’s Devin, the Bancrofts eldest son. He runs from her, but gets caught by the cops before he can escape. At the station, Delia and Melinda find Doug bailing Devin out. Doug is cool as a cucumber, but Devin is tense, and doesn’t speak. Then Josh appears. Melinda wants to know what prompted Devin’s visit, and says that Josh must have sent the call to Devin as well. Doug moves Devin on before he can respond to Melinda, and Josh says that this is how is always happened. Doug always made everything go away.

Meanwhile, Eli and Jim are discussing the email proposal to Nicole. Jim is wondering why she didn’t reply in any way. Eli says that he’s decided not to check his voicemail, though, on purpose, because if Nicole said yes, he’s now engaged to someone he doesn’t know, and if she said no, he’s been rejected by the only person who can help him. Deep, Dr. Eli. Jim gets his voicemail reset.

The next day, Melinda is playing the two 911 calls for Eli, when Delia runs in with the news that Devin’s backpack was full of weed killer. He was responsible for the lawn art. Melinda plays the first 911 call again, and realizes that on it, Doug’s voice gets louder, as though he’s running towards the phone. She figures out that Devin must have made that call, not Doug.

We flash to Devin, who is watching videos of Josh on his phone while standing on the roof of the Bancroft house. Jim shows up just moments before Devin jumps. Jim taps into his paramedic knowledge, weirding Melinda out, and saves his life. Jim (Sam) can’t remember how he knows what he knows, but Melinda probes him, and tries to get him to get more.

At Devin’s hospital bedside, Alana and Doug get a visit from Melinda, who comes with information from Josh. He’s been waiting to see them all together. He wants his family to talk to each other. He doesn’t like the fact that the family has fallen apart over a lie. Turns out it was Devin that killed Josh. Doug wasn’t even around the mower when Josh died. Doug took the blame to save Alana the pain of the situation. With the truth out, the Bancrofts reunite, and Josh crosses over.

In the end, Delia sells the Bancroft house. Melinda gets Jim to talk more about his past, but instead of doing the past-life regression that Melinda wants, Jim is heading out of town to find Nicole. He asks Melinda to wish him luck, but she only smiles as he drives away.

New Ghost Whisperer Spoilers! A Love Triangle?

Ghost Whisperer scares up a love triangle featuring Jim/Sam’s fiancé. Plus: More guest-casting news, and scoop on Love’s directorial debut….

Watch the Video at TV Guide

I don’y know how much more ridiculous it can get, but Teri Polo will be playing Sam/Jim’s mystery fiance, and there will be a love triangle between Melinda/Sam/Fiance.

Side note: I thought the producers wanted to show the viewer Melinda & Jim falling i love, but from all the spoilers this time round is going to be filled with drama, while the first and real time was relatively game free.

We all saw the episode where Jim and Melinda met, they were a drama free couple always. Jim was open and accepting of Melinda’s gift. This time there are triangle, bumbling, and Jim becomes skeptical of Melinda’s gift as the season closes.

Rena Sofer is going to guest on an upcoming episode as a ghost who has to resolve her love life before she goes into the light.

The episode Jennifer Love Hewitt’s  directed will air in January.
