Mischa Barton Reportedly Testing for ‘Melrose Place’ Remake

There’s a speculation that Mischa Barton is aiming for an adult genre by enrolling herself in the spin-off to ‘Melrose Place’.

The pilot has been given a thumb up, first few actors have been cast, the remake of “Melrose Place” just lacks a bit of spice. The producers may be ready to fill in that with a negotiation with former “” star, .

In its recent casting scoop, Zap2It Korbi claims that an insider informs her that Barton is trying for a role in the refurbished TV series. The CW which will air the show, is reportedly excited in having her. No information however, on which character Barton most likely take over.

Should the rumor contains truth, then Barton will join two actors which have been confirmed to be on board. who had a role in ““, will play an ambitious publicist by the name of Ella Flynn. Michael Rady meanwhile, will portray Jonah Miller, a filmmaker.

reportedly is also in talks to reprise her famous role in the original “Melrose Place” series, Amanda Woodard. But no confirming statement has been published regarding this.

Desperate Housewives Spoilers: Nicollette Sheridan Leaving Show

After five seasons on Desperate Housewives, Edie Britt is leaving Wisteria Lane. TV Guide is reporting that Nicollette Sheridan will be leaving the show this season. Sheridan’s representative said in a statement that “[Nicollette] had a great time on the show and is looking forward to her next project.” ABC would only confirm that the character would be leaving the show.

While ABC gave no further details about when or how Sheridan’s character makes the exit from the show, Casablanca wrote in his report that Edie will find out that her husband, Dave Williams, plans to kill her. Trying to save her life, she runs out of the house but will soon get involved in an accident, involving her car and an electrical wire.  — Source: Ace Showbiz

Edie Britt Is Leaving Desperate Housewives

After five seasons on Desperate Housewives, the saucy, sassy Edie Britt is leaving the show, has confirmed.

“[Nicollette] had a great time on the show and is looking forward to her next project,” a rep for Sheridan said in a statement. (Interestingly though, an ABC rep would only confirm, via email, that the character would be leaving the show. Semantics, a slip of the keyboard, mind games? We’ll see.)

Though Edie has at times been the fifth wheel in the Housewives mix, with less screen time than the show’s original four ladies, this season’s central mystery involves Edie’s mysterious new husband, Dave Williams (Neal McDonough), and his possibly sinister intentions for moving to Edie’s idyllic neighborhood.

No word yet on how Edie will depart the show, but it should be noted that she has “left” the ‘hood once before. At the end of Season 4, she moved to Boston, and was essentially gone from Wisteria Lane during the five-year time jump that took place between Seasons 4 and 5 before returning at the beginning of this season

ABC Delays End of Pushing Daisies, Eli and Dirty Sexy Money

ABC Delays End of Daisies, Eli and Dirty Sexy Money

Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies), Jonny Lee Miller (Eli Stone), Peter Krause (Dirty Sexy Money) ABC/Scott Garfield, ABC/Craig Sjodin, ABC/Scott Garfield

Dying to know where the Piemaker and his beloved Charlotte Charles will end up when Pushing Daisies comes to a close?

Join the club! But apparently ABC is in no hurry to give the fans closure.

Sources close to the Alphabet network tell me exclusively that the remaining episodes for Daisies will not air until—wait for it, ‘cause you’re gonna have to—this summer.

And that’s not all. It’s the same case for those two other much-loved but recently canceled ABC series: Eli Stone and Dirty Sexy Money.

Yes, word is Daisies’ final three episodes and Eli and DSM‘s final four won’t air until June at the earliest.

According to insiders, the original plan was for the final three episodes of Daisies to begin airing last Wednesday, but ABC decided to air reruns of Scrubs instead.

And what you really won’t want to hear is…

There’s actually a pretty solid reason—from a business standpoint, at least—for ABC to delay the airing of these final episodes.

Though we all know Daisies, Eli and DSM are three of the best-produced series currently on television, the sad truth is that the programming ABC has plugged into those three timeslots (Wednesdays at 8, Tuesdays at 10 and Wednesdays at 10, respectively) have fared as well or better in the ratings. Even lame specials and reruns.

While Eli‘s last-aired epside on Dec. 30 pulled in about 3.8 million viewers, a candid-camera special called “What Would You Do?” got an audience of about 7 million in the same time slot on Jan. 6 and Scrubs got  6.7 million on Tuesday…up against American Idol.

On Dec. 17, Daisies’ and DSM’s final airings pulled in 4.6 million and 5.1 million respectively. Last Wednesday, a Barbara Walters special scored an audience of more than 12 million. And last night, reruns of Lost got similar numbers with an average of 4.5 million.

So while it’s outrageous and (heartbreaking!) to have to wait six months to see the conclusion to these fan favorites, the question remains: Who is at fault? ABC or the American viewing public for not giving these shows a real shot in the first place? Personally, I’m just disappointed all the way around. Sound off below…

One Tree Hill News: More on Season 7

Do you have any news on One Tree Hill? We heard that Mark Schwahn had asked The CW for a decision on season 7 by 1 January so that he could write an appropriate season ending. — Nathan
Not Jan. 1, but a decision will be made soon. It’s all about contracts now. The cast only signed six-year pacts, so new deals will have to be brokered. Negotiations are happening as we speak. — Source: Ausiello Files – EW

Smallvile Major Spoilers & News: Tom Welling Signing on for Season 9!

Any news as to whether Tom Welling has signed on for another season of Smallville?
Yes, there’s news, and it’s good. Some would even call it, ahem, super. According to a well-placed Smallville insider, Welling is nearing a deal to return for a ninth season. I’m told they’re just ironing out some minor deal points, such as should the Brinks Truck pull into the actor’s driveway, or just unload on the street. Source: Ausiello Files – EW

Brothers & Sisters Spoilers & News: Is Balthazar Getty Leaving the Show for Good?

Scoop: Is ‘Brothers & Sisters’ disowning Balthazar Getty?

by Michael Ausiello, EW

Balthazargetty_l I smell fresh Emmy material for Brothers & Sisters matriarch Sally Field.

According to sources, Balthazar Getty, who plays the Oscar winner’s eldest son, was informed last week that producers were not planning on picking up his option as a full-time series regular next season. However, that doesn’t mean that Tommy’s place setting at the Walker dinner table is being permanently removed. Not yet, anyway. Per a B&S source, Getty is currently in talks with the show to stay on in a reduced capacity, perhaps as a recurring guest star.

While a rep for the show declined to comment, Getty’s spokesperson denies that the actor is leaving.

Rumors about Getty’s possible exit have been grist for the gossip mill for months. The actor’s real-life drama — the collapse of his marriage and ensuing tabloid-ready romance with Sienna Miller — has allegedly alienated him from his co-stars, many of who had grown close to his wife, Rosetta, and their four young children. What’s more, according to E! Online‘s Marc Malkin, Getty has been showing up late for work and proving increasingly “difficult” to work with.

But per multiple sources, Getty’s sorta-departure is not the result of any one issue but a combination of factors that also includes budgetary and storyline considerations. Tommy has long been considered the most disposable of B&S‘s siblings. Removing him, at least as a regular presence, frees up the show to introduce some new blood.

In any case, don’t expect Tommy to exit by way of a casket. Although an ABC insider says the idea of killing off a Walker has been discussed, the network would likely view such a twist as “too morbid.” As a result, Tommy is likely to either relocate with his wife and baby, or just drift into the background and reappear for the occasional disastrous dinner party.

What do you think? Is Tommy an integral part of B&S? Or will you not even notice if he’s missing? Also, could Getty be the subject of a certain blind item (tee-hee)?

THE SKINNY: On Sunday, December 14th the cast of GHOST WHISPERER and the shows Producers had a book signing for the new book GHOST WHISPERER SPIRIT GUIDE, which was written by the show’s executive producers Kim Moses and Ian Sander.

GHOST WHISPERER, which started in 2005, stars Jennifer Love Hewitt as Melinda Gordon who can see and talk to the dead. The show has gone through changes during the years it has been on. Aisha Tyler’s character Andrea Morena was killed in 2006. Camryn Manheim who portrays Delia Banks now stars as Melinda’s best friend and her son Ned Banks portrayed by Christoph Sanders helps Melinda in her adventures, although he cannot see or hear the dead. Jay Mohr left the show, although they left it so he can return, and Jamie Kennedy who can hear the dead replaced him this season.  David Conrad, who stars as Jim Clancy, Melinda’s husband and the center of her world was recently killed and his ghost now inhibits the body of Sam played by Kenneth Mitchell. Pushing Daisies Spoilers & News “Chenoweth: Olive Should End Up with Ned”

Chenoweth: Pushing Daisies‘ Olive Should End Up with Ned

Source: TV Guide

Kristin Chenoweth, Pushing Daisies
We’re all bummed that ABC has canceled Pushing Daisies, and no magic finger is bringing it back to life. But perhaps none of us is as sad as Kristin Chenoweth, who plays the spunky, sing-songy Olive Snook on the romantic fantasy series. While speaking about her appearance on TNT’s Christmas in Washington (Wednesday, 8 pm/ET), Chenoweth lamented the way the show met its end, and how she imagined Olive’s future with her Pie Hole cohorts. (While three episodes of Daisies‘ final season have yet to air, ABC has not announced when or if they will.) Let’s listen in, shall we? Are you going to get a chance to wrap everything up?
Kristin Chenoweth: [Series creator] Bryan Fuller asked if he should write an episode that wrapped everything up, and ABC specifically said [not to].” We didn’t know until recently that we were canceled so we went ahead and shot an episode thinking that there was a possibility that we’d be coming back. I understand that the ratings weren’t what they’d hoped and that we were an expensive show to produce. I get it in my mind, but my heart has a harder time with it. Are you at least happy where Olive is by the end?
Chenoweth: In the remaining episodes, they do introduce David Arquette’s character [as a love interest], so you can see how Olive could move forward — not on, but forward — with somebody and find happiness. I also will be singing a little Lionel Richie. Do you have an epilogue in your head, an idea of where Olive’s story would take her in the future?
Chenoweth: I love you for asking this question. I’m just crazy enough to have planned the whole thing out. Of course, this is in my head and not Bryan’s. I have always envisioned that Ned eventually sees that he can have a real relationship with Olive. I have to believe that as an actress because I have to play her. I always played this character, which not a lot of people know, like there was something serious going on between Olive and Ned before Chuck came on the scene. I don’t know if Ned and Olive end up together, but in my mind the end of the series is Ned with [the reanimated bodies of] Olive, Chuck and Emerson all together.

Enlightening? Entertaining? Creepy? How do you think Pushing Daisies should end?

Grey’s Anatomy Spoilers & News: More on George Leaving!

Is our George really leaving Grey’s Anatomy? As a Gizzie and George fan, I hope not.

The latest I’ve heard from inside sources is that yes, T.R. did ask to get out of his contract, and so far, no final decision or details have been reached, but it is looking likely he we will go. However, you should know that according to ABC sources, T.R. is not the first Grey’s castmember to be asked out of his contract. There have been at least two others in recent years. Any guesses?

Got any more scoop on T.R. leaving Grey’s?
When asked whether T.R. is leaving the show, Eric Dane tells us: “I don’t know how true that is, but if it were, it would certainly be a loss. I don’t think there’s any truth to that until I’m told otherwise.” I’m told that pretty much the entire cast and crew is being kept in the dark as to what is really going on. Still, T.R. remains close friends with Katherine Heigl. They were spotted having dinner Thursday night at BLVD 16 with Katherine’s hubby, Josh Kelly, and her mother. — Source: Kristin on E!Online

New Desperate Housewives Spoilers: Update Almost Set for 9 Seasons

‘Desperate Housewives’ Extended Until Ninth Season

Ace Showbiz

Creator Marc Cherry announced that there have been talks to bring ‘Desperate Housewives’ for two additional seasons.

Marc Cherry, creator of “” announced that the show will be extended up to ninth season although no deal has been sealed with ABC. Cherry who also serves as the executive producer, thought that the series would end in seventh season but the popularity of the show provides the courage to go on for two more seasons.

While celebrating the shooting of the show’s 100th episode, Cherry said, “My intention has always been to end the show after seven seasons, ’cause that first season darn near killed me. (But) the five-year jump seems to have reinvigorated interest in the show, and the ratings are terrific. So I started recently talks with (ABC Entertainment president) Steve McPherson and (ABC Studios chief) Mark Pedowitz about continuing the show for a ninth season. We’re going to find a way to make it work.”

On this McPherson added, “Conceptually, we sat and talked about this. The fact is that it is his show, and his heart is in it, and I think it’s always important to keep the vision of the show in the hands of the creator.”

Desperate Housewives” is currently in its fifth season. For the week ending December 7, the show scores ABC a high rating of 16.1 million on top of fellow ABC show ““.

Desperate Housewives Spoilers & News: Housewives to Make Merry for Two Additional Seasons?

Exclusive: Housewives to Make Merry for Two Additional Seasons?

By Matt Mitovich, TV Guide

Should you count on a bit more hysteria from the ladies of Wisteria Lane? has learned exclusively that at a Wednesday cake-cutting ceremony marking 100 episodes of ABC’s Desperate Housewives, series creator Marc Cherry announced his desire to extend the prime-time sudser’s run to a total of nine seasons, versus his previously envisioned seven.

But will ABC make Cherry’s dream a reality? One studio source tells me that while the idea of unspooling even more saucy stories for the resurgent Housewives seems a natural, much paperwork — including a formal pick-up from ABC — needs to be in hand first.

In February 2007, when Cherry inked a four-year deal with ABC Studios, he revealed his plan to wrap up the story of Bree, Susan et al in 2011, saying, “At the end of my deal, and after seven seasons, it will be a good time to call it quits. I don’t want anyone else to run the show, and I don’t want us to fade away.” In keeping with that sentiment, insiders suspect that Cherry is open to extending his own pact to 2013, so that he can remain at the helm for the additional seasons.

And the Housewives themselves? While one source tells me that Marcia Cross, Teri Hatcher, Felicity Huffman and Eva Longoria Parker are already on board for the added seasons, another insider cautions that all I’s and T’s may not yet have been dotted and crossed.

What’s your take, readers? Do you think the Housewives four-and-a-half years’ worth of sex, lies and cellar-dwellers left in them?

Ghost Whisperer Spoilers & News: “Reasons why Jim 2.0 will work out in the end”

David ConradTV Squad Ten: Reasons why Jim 2.0 will work out in the end on Ghost Whisperer by Isabelle Carreau, TV Squad
Before writing my thoughts on Ghost Whisperer‘s Sam (aka Jim 2.0), I wanted to give the new character a chance. Now that the last episode before the Holiday hiatus has aired, it’s time for me to weigh in on Sam and how his relationship with Melinda is working.

I could have easily written a “10 reasons why Jim 2.0 will not work out” (Sam is no Jim being the first reason on my list) but I want to stay positive about the series and feel like the hours I’ve put in catching up these past months will not have been for nothing. So here we go with 10 reasons why Jim 2.0 will work out in the end and why this twist is helping the show.

Disclaimer: Reasons are in random order.

1 – Melinda and Jim have a second shot at true love. One of the things that fans loved about the show was Jim and Melinda’s relationship. What we didn’t get to see before now, though, was how they became the couple we loved so much. The twist offers just that.

2 – David Conrad is still on the show. Some of you may recall that there have been talks of killing Jim years ago. However, back then, word was that David Conrad would not be sticking around. So the upside with this twist is that it allows Conrad to stick around. Not only that, but he seems to be getting more screen time!

3 – Kenneth Mitchell is not bad to look at. Okay, this may not be the best reason on my list, but let’s face it, one of the first things we thought upon seeing Jim enter Sam’s body was how he would look to the outside world. Looking like Kenneth Mitchell ain’t bad at all, for Jim and for us. I also can’t wait for Melinda’s other friends and neighbors to start asking questions as to why she spends so much time with someone who is not Jim.

4 – Jim and Melinda get new storylines.
As much as I loved Jim and Melinda as a couple, I must admit that I was getting tired of the fact they were mostly together in the same type of scenes: Melinda being troubled over a case and talking to Jim about it either in their living room or in bed; Melinda having a vision while sleeping and Jim comforting her when she woke up; etc. The fact that Jim 2.0 doesn’t know about Melinda’s gift and doesn’t recall he was Jim 1.0 offers new interaction between Melinda and him.

5 – David Conrad is offered new material. This list item goes hand in hand with #4. Conrad wasn’t offered much variety on the show these past years. We mostly saw him saving people after accidents or talking to Melinda at their house. Now playing Sam/Jim 2.0, Conrad has the chance to try new things and be in different settings. He also seems to be getting more screen time; however, this may change once the Sam novelty wears off.

6 – New characters are being introduced. Yeah, I know we get new characters every week thanks to the ghost of the week storyline. However, with Sam, we get potentially new recurring characters entering Melinda’s world. This can be a good thing because they’ll bring new twists and turns to the show, especially if they’re from Sam’s part of town…

7 – We might learn more about the ghost world. When Jim died, we were given a few new tidbits about how ghosts live. Now we know that they can take over a body for long periods, but there are a few catches. We know of one: Jim not remembering who he is. But is there more to this? Will Jim have to get out of Sam’s body at some point? Will Jim ever be able to be Jim again? Will the evil ghosts crash Jim 2.0 and Melinda’s party when they are finally a couple because Jim shouldn’t be there? All these questions will give us more answers as to how the ghost world works.

8 – Camryn Manheim gets more screen time and better lines. Delia is a supporting character, but given the acting skills Manheim displayed during her stint on The Practice (remember she won an Emmy and a Golden Globe for her role), the actress deserved more. With Jim’s death, Melinda needed a shoulder to cry on and with Professor Payne away, Delia was the best choice to fill that role. Also thanks to this twist, Delia finally believes in Melinda’s work. It’s about time!

9 – Eli gets less screen time. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, adding Jamie Kennedy to the show wasn’t the best of moves. I understand that with Payne gone, Melinda needed a new sidekick, but Kennedy is not the best drama series actor. However, now that he’s appeared in a few episodes, Kennedy appears to be more at ease with the role of Eli, and his acting is slightly better. Thankfully, because Sam and Delia need more screen time, Eli gets less. This can only be good for GW.

10 – We know that in the end, Jim 1.0 and Melinda will be together. No matter how rocky the road gets, fans must know that the show creators will have Jim and Melinda be together at last. This couple has one of the best love stories and relationships on TV right now, so they must honor it by having them reunite. But will it happen while Jim is in Sam’s body, or will it happen when Melinda and Sam die? I hope it’s the former … or secret option #3, Jim somehow gets his own body back before Melinda goes through the light for good.

T.R. Knight Still on ‘Grey’s Anatomy’

Representative for ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ dismisses rumor that T.R. Knight is leaving the ABC’s popular medical drama series.

Reacting to the rumor that says T.R. Knight might leave Shonda Rhimes’ hit medical drama series, ““, the series’ representative finally comes out with a statement regarding the matter. On Monday, December 8, the spokesperson has claimed that the actor, who plays Dr. George O’Malley on the series, will not go anywhere.

To Us Magazine, the “Grey’s Anatomy” representative clears previous rumor stating that Knight has left the filming set. “T.R. has never walked off set in the middle of filming. He attended the table read today and will be shooting this week, like any other week of production,” the rep assures.

Previously, it has been informed by Crazy Days and Nights that the 35-year-old actor has not attended table reads since episode 2 for this season and would leave the show because he thinks that his story line is stupid.

Additionally, T.R. Knight, who has been nominated for Emmy Awards and won the Screen Actors Guild Awards, has several other television credits beside “Grey’s Anatomy”. He once guest-starred on “” and ““. — Ace Showbiz

Gossip Girl Spoilers & Scoop: Jenny‘s hair explained! Plus a Pregnancy, a New Couple, and More!

Gossip Girl: Jenny‘s hair explained! Plus a Pregnancy, a New Couple, and More!

The CW Source

We finally might have an explanation for Little Jenny Humphrey’s suspiciously rock-n-roll hair – 15-year-old actress Taylor Momsen is apparently putting together a band. According to the New York Post, Taylor was spotted at a Blondie show at the Manhattan Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where she told friends she was going to be the frontwoman for a new act. “She looked just like a rocker and kept talking about her band,” their sources say. What do you think? Would you want to see Taylor rock out?The Post also reports that there may be a new couple on the set — Ed Westwick and Jessica Szohr were spotted smooching as they waited for a plane in Dallas. “They were trying to be discreet by stealing kisses near the gate,” the Post’s source says. But what we find REALLY shocking about the story is that the two actors flew coach to La Guardia. Chuck Bass wouldn’t stand for such an indignity!

The folks at New York Magazine are rabid GG fans – remember their cover story proclaiming Gossip Girl the best show ever? So we loved reading their impressions about meeting series producers Stephanie Savage and Josh Schwartz at the Apple store in Soho. They also got plenty of scoop. Some fun facts:

  • The kids will be going to college next year, but expect them to stick around New York.
  • Ed Westwick originally auditioned for the role of Nate. Can you imagine?
  • Expect Georgina to return at some point: “”It’s hard to imagine a boarding school for bad girls in Idaho would be able to hold her for long,” Savage said.
  • It’s a heck of a lot easier to film in New York than in California, Josh said. “When we filmed The O.C., we couldn’t even get a permit to fly a helicopter over the beach. We’re grateful New York has lower standards.” Hee!

In other news, People magazine reports that “the mom” on Gossip Girl is living up to her title. Kelly Rutherford, who plays Lily van der Woodsen, is pregnant with her second child. But don’t expect to see Lily sporting a baby bump: “I told [the writers] pretty much as soon as I found out, so they had some time to think about it,” she says. “I’ll only be I think about six months pregnant when we go on hiatus so it shouldn’t be too difficult to figure out and work around it.”

EW’s Michael Ausiello has the scoop on a new teacher who will be hitting Constance Billard. Word is that Laura Breckenridge of Related will be coming on board as Rachel Carr, idealistic and fresh-faced new English – and she looks young enough hat she gets mistaken for a student! The part we’re salivating over is that the new teach is not impressed with Upper East Side It-Girl Serena. Wait, someone who doesn’t worship the ground Serena walks on? It’s about time!

Grey’s Anatomy Spoilers Breaking: George (TR Knight) Leaving the Show?

TrknightBreaking: Has T.R. Knight Called a Time of Death on George O’Malley?

Source: Zap2It’s Korbi TV

Let me begin by saying that this story has not yet been confirmed, but rumors are flying around town that Grey’s Anatomy‘s T.R. Knight has cleaned out his Seattle Grace locker for good. Sources say the actor was unhappy with his storyline, and after hearing that his character George O’Malley may be written out before the end of the season anyway, he decided to pull a Star Jones and beat the show’s producers to the punch. Of course, Knight is under contract, so I’m not sure how that’s supposed to work out, but we shall see…

Again, I must stress that this story is not yet confirmed, but I’ve contacted ABC for comment and will provide more details as I get them. In the meantime, what are you thinking? If T.R. has up and left Grey’s, do you think it was a good move? Would Georgie’s absence affect your support of the series?

Gossip Girl News!

Exclusive: ‘Gossip’ Guy Nixes Contract

by Michael Ausiello, EW

Warning: If you’re an out-of-work actor, this story may induce uncontrollable head-scratching and/or violent convulsions.

Gossip Girl third-stringer Connor Paolo, who plays Blake Lively’s little (and recently outed) brother, Eric van der Woodsen, has rejected an offer from the show to become a series regular.

OMFGRUSERIOUS? Totally serious.

So what’s the deal? Is he scared to be gaycast, as Thomas Dekker allegedly was circa Heroes? Nah. My Gossip rumor monger insists that the One Life to Live alum is “totally comfortable playing a gay character.” More likely, it’s about dollars and common sense.

See, the deal that was put before Paolo was not for all shows produced, or ASP as it’s called in the biz. Rather, the contract called for him to appear in only half of this season’s 25 episodes, which is about what he’s been averaging as a recurring player, anyway. So, basically, by remaining a free agent, he’s got the same gig with none of the strings attached.

“He probably didn’t want to commit to being ninth fiddle on a show,” theorizes one TV agent. “Sure, he’ll make less money, but he’s free to accept other opportunities in TV and film should they come along. It’s not a bad move if you have aspirations to do other things.”

And although a Gossip rep declined to comment, and so did Paolo’s agent, my insider stresses that, contract or no, the young thespian remains happily committed to TV’s hottest soap for the foreseeable future. Schedule permitting, of course.

Privileged Scoop: CW Orders Five More ‘Privileged’ Eps

Breaking: CW Orders Five More ‘Privileged’ Eps

by Michael Ausiello, EW

Priviledged_l It’s the news we’ve been waiting for, Privileged fans. In what amounts to a major vote of confidence, The CW has ordered five additional episodes of Rina Mimoun’s increasingly addictive Tuesday night drama. What’s more, the net is temporarily giving the ratings-challenged (and People’s Choice nominated) show one of its most coveted time slots: Mondays at 9 p.m. after Gossip Girl. On Dec. 1 and 8, Privileged will air behind original episodes of Gossip Girl, replacing previously scheduled One Tree Hill repeats. Those two Privileged eps will then be rebroadcast in the show’s usual time slot, Tuesdays at 9 pm. Season to date, Privileged has averaged a so-so 2.1 rating among women 18 to 34, its target demo. In light of the Monday experiment and the five-episode pickup, The CW clearly feels the show has the potential to grow.

Grey’s Anatomy Spoilers: Brooke Smith Fired; Melissa George No Longer a Lesbian

Grey’s Degayed: Brooke Smith Fired; Melissa George No Longer a Lesbian

Craig Sjodin, ABC/Scott Garfield

Melissa George, Brooke Smith, Grey's Anatomy

It’s true. Sources confirm that Brooke Smith, who plays Dr. Erica Hahn (a doctor who recently relized she is gay), has been axed from Grey’s Anatomy.

Even more, I’m told by those who work on the ABC series that the gay-themed storylines and gay characters are being downplayed and even erased from upcoming scripts.

And that goes for the series’ latest newcomer, Melissa George of Alias, who joins the show this month…

“Melissa came on as a lesbian character,” a reliable insider tells me, “but they changed the script and now she isn’t. She starts off flirting with Callie but it never goes anywhere.”

Grey’s has included a prominent bisexual/lesbian storyline this season in the blossoming relationship between Hahn (Smith) and Callie (Sara Ramirez). I’m told that that storyline will end abruptly in this Thursday’s episode, which will be Smith’s last appearance on the series.

“They don’t really give her a goodbye,” an ABC source tells me. “It ends rather abruptly.”

E.W.‘s Michael Ausiello first broke the news of Brooke’s dismissal today. “I was very excited when they told me that Erica and Callie were going to have this relationship,” Brooke told E.W. “And I really hoped we were going to show what happens when two women fall in love and that they were going to treat it like any heterosexual couple on TV. And so I was surprised and disappointed when they just suddenly told me that they couldn’t write for my character any more.”

ABC also fired Rebecca Romijn—who plays transgender Alexis Meade—as a series regular from Ugly Betty at the end of last season. Could this be a new trend with the network, or just another unfortunate scandal Grey’s will withstand?

Grey’s Anatomy Spoilers: Grey’s Discharges Dr. Hahn

Grey’s Actress “Really, Really Shocked” by Ouster from Show

It is the worst and last news that “Callica” fans expected to hear. But the fact is that Brooke Smith, who first appeared as Grey’s Anatomy‘s Dr. Erica Hahn in May 2006, has been abruptly let go from the show — just as her lesbian storyline with Sara Ramirez’s Callie was taking off. Ironically, series creator Shonda Rhimes broke the news to Smith in mid-September, just after the actress had filmed Erica’s pivotal “I see leaves!” coming-out monologue. Her last episode airs this Thursday.

“I was very excited when they told me that Erica and Callie were going to have this relationship. And I really hoped we were going to show what happens when two women fall in love and that they were going to treat it like any heterosexual couple on TV,” Smith tells EW‘s Ausiello, who first reported on her release. “So I was surprised and disappointed when they just suddenly told me that they couldn’t write for my character anymore.

“I was really, really shocked,” she stresses. “It was the last thing I expected.”

Though ABC declines to comment on the reason for the unexpected ouster, Smith says that in her talk with Rhimes, she got the feeling it was dictated by the network. “I don’t know for sure, but it definitely seemed like [Shonda’s] hands were tied,” she says, “like some decision came down from above.”

Might have this frank exploration of two women coming to terms with new sexual orientations proven too hot for ABC to handle? Smith saw no such signs. “At work I had no sense of it. And more fans seemed to like it than not,” she tells EW. “I don’t think I’m ever going to know [why this happened].”

Exclusive: ‘Grey’s Anatomy’ Discharges Dr. Hahn

Nov 3, 2008, by Michael Ausiello, EW

Greys_l1UPDATE: Shonda Rhimes has just released the following statement in response to this story: “Brooke Smith was obviously not fired for playing a lesbian. Clearly it’s not an issue as we have a lesbian character on the show – Calliope Torres. Sara Ramirez is an incredible comedic and dramatic actress and we wanted to be able to play up her magic. Unfortunately, we did not find that the magic and chemistry with Brooke’s character would sustain in the long run. The impact of the Callie/Erica relationship will be felt and played out in a story for Callie. I believe it belittles the relationship to simply replace Erica with ‘another lesbian.’ If you’ll remember, Cristina mourned the loss of Burke for a full season.”

ORIGINAL STORY: Brace yourselves, Grey’s Anatomy fans: The show has parted ways with a female doc who is blond, beautiful, outspoken – and not Katherine Heigl. It’s Brooke Smith. As in Dr. Erica Hahn. As in one half of Callica, Grey’s first-ever significant gay couple. And that’s only part of the story. I’m told this was not Shonda Rhimes’ decision but rather an order that came down from the network. According to one Grey’s source, the suits “had issues” with both the explicit direction Callica was taking (think: undiscovered country, south of the border, etc.) and, more importantly, with the Hahn character in general. Basically, they didn’t like her and wanted her gone ASAP. But how soon? And what does this mean for Callica? Keep yourselves braced, because the shocks don’t stop in the following Q&A with the sublime Ms. Smith. She deserves better treatment than this, and next go-round, here’s hoping she gets it.

AUSIELLO: What the hell happened?!
I was very excited when they told me that Erica and Callie were going to have this relationship. And I really hoped we were going to show what happens when two women fall in love and that they were going to treat it like any heterosexual couple on TV. And so I was surprised and disappointed when they just suddenly told me that they couldn’t write for my character anymore.

That’s all they said?
Yes. Frankly, it was you that warned me this might happen on the red carpet back in July. You said [sometimes networks get cold feet] with gay relationships. And I was so naive. I’m like, “It’s 2008.” But I’m starting to realize that not everyone feels the way I do. [Scroll down to watch our now-infamous exchange.]

Did you get the feeling that the story was making people nervous?
No. At work I had no sense of it. And more fans seemed to like it than not. I don’t think I’m ever going to know [why this really happened].

When did you find out?
I found out in mid-September soon after shooting the monologue that aired last week where Erica has the revelation that she’s gay. They even came down and told me it was a great scene — one of the best they ever shot on the show. So I was really, really shocked. I was floored when they told me [I was being let go]. It was the last thing I expected. In fact, when they told me I asked, “When is this happening?” And they said, “The [next episode] is your last,” which is the one that airs this Thursday. So it was very sudden.

Wait a second – your last episode is this Thursday?

How are you written out?
I’m not written out. My final scene is just me heading to my car. I honestly don’t know what happens in the next episode. I heard not much. [Quick sidebar: This sheds new light on Mary McDonnell’s arrival next week as a top cardiac doc.]

Who broke the news to you?

I’m hearing that this wasn’t her decision, but rather ABC’s.
You know, I have to tell you, I got that feeling. I don’t know for sure, but it definitely seemed like [Shonda’s] hands were tied. That was just my gut.

Did she seem upset?
She did seem upset. I wasn’t having a very good week that week. I was like, “Oh, God, what is it with this business?!” And she said, “No, no, no. You are such a great actress. We love you.” It seemed like some decision came down from above. It didn’t feel like it was her.

What was Sara Ramirez’s [Callie] reaction?
She was shocked. I’m the one who told her. It took her a few days to get back to me because she was surprised. It was surprising to everybody.

Were you happy with the direction the story line was taking?
You know, I was starting to get there, yeah. I was personally a little impatient with the gay panic, but it was more Callie’s thing anyway. I think Dr. Hahn was sort of figuring it out.

What did you think about Callie going to Mark to get pointers on exploring the “undiscovered country”?
It was a little icky. If you’re a women, don’t you know how to please yourself? But they seemed to be okay with that one.

How are you doing with all this?
It’s actually never happened to me before. But I never had a moment where I thought I did something wrong. I was just really surprised. I just moved my entire family to L.A., so it was kind of like, “What?” But for some reason I feel like I’m fine. I feel like I’m going to be okay.
